Huawei Supports Singapore’s National AI Student Challenge to Cultivate Next-Generation AI Talent
[Singapore, 23 May 2026] – As part of Huawei’s Tech4CITY initiative, Huawei has partnered with AI Singapore for the second consecutive year as a challenge track partner for the National AI Student Challenge (NAISC). This year’s event attracted over 50 teams participating in the Huawei track, reinforcing Huawei’s commitment to fostering digital innovation and technological prowess among local youth.
Addressing the demands of modern urbanization, the Huawei track of the NAISC centered on the theme ‘AI in Smart City’, challenging participants to develop solutions for Singapore's landscape. Students were tasked with developing a Smart Multi-Agent AI System capable of real-time anomaly detection, predictive maintenance, and decision support for industrial plants across Singapore. The proposed solutions addressed critical sectors including manufacturing, cooling systems, power grids, and water treatment plants. Ten finalist teams were shortlisted and granted USD200 in Huawei Cloud credits to build and refine their AI systems. They also benefited from dedicated mentorship and guidance in the lead-up to the finals.
The finals of the NAISC culminated at the ATxSummit: AI Student Developer Conference (AISDC) 2026 which took place on 22 and 23 May. The event brought together students and industry leaders to explore embodied and bilingual AI in action, AI for Good, responsible AI deployment and more, under the overarching theme “AI in Action: Co-Creating Intelligent Futures”. The top five teams from the Huawei track hailed from Nanyang Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic, Singapore Institute of Technology, Singapore Institute of Management, and the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM-UOL).

The competition concluded with the crowning of the champion team Imagine Winning from Nanyang Polytechnic for their innovative solution NeoPulse. NeoPulse is an AI platform that enables proactive industrial maintenance. It detects anomalies, identifies root causes, simulates impacts via a digital twin, and recommends actions to prevent downtime. The award was presented by Minister of State for Digital Development and Information, and Ministry of Health, Mdm Rahayu Mahzam at the finals.

Mr. Maxi Wang, CEO of Huawei International, said, “As Huawei proudly marks its 25th anniversary in Singapore, our commitment to cultivating a robust AI talent ecosystem for Singapore’s Smart Nation vision is stronger than ever. Advancing Singapore’s AI‑first ambition requires sustained, collective investment to nurture young talent and drive real‑world innovation. Through initiatives like the National AI Student Challenge, Huawei’s Tech4CITY program, and the foundational support of Huawei Cloud, Huawei is equipping the next generation to become a true 'AI-multilingual' workforce, with operational fluency across diverse multi-stack AI ecosystems. By bridging these technological landscapes, we ensure Singapore's youth are uniquely positioned to actively shape the global digital future.”
“The National AI Student Challenge enables students to apply AI skills to real-world challenges and create meaningful impact. Support from industry partners such as Huawei helps prepare students for future careers while strengthening Singapore’s AI talent ecosystem,” said Mr Koo Sengmeng, Director of Talent & Ecosystem, AI Singapore.

From Concept to Cloud: Building Real-World AI Solutions
The participants embarked on a hands-on learning journey, leveraging the full power of the Huawei Cloud stack to bring their AI concepts to life. They built end-to-end systems by utilizing key services: IoT Device Access (IoTDA) for real-time sensor data ingestion, Elastic Cloud Server (ECS) for computational power and frontend hosting, Object Storage Service (OBS) for data management, and ModelArts for developing and deploying their intelligent reasoning agents.
The experience was driven by a mission to create tangible impact. “We were really inspired by Huawei problem statement and wanted to explore how we could leverage Huawei Cloud to build a product that could positively impact Singapore and help shape the future,” shared team JDI, a group of students from Singapore Institute of Technology.
For many, access to real-world industrial data and a professional cloud platform was a transformative opportunity. “The biggest takeaway was working with authentic ICS data and a full-scale cloud stack, moving beyond the ‘toy datasets’ and local environments typical of student projects,” commented Team MaRC from Temasek Polytechnic. “We came out of this knowing how to deploy a real-time inference pipeline on the cloud, design a knowledge graph, work with a graph neural network, and integrate an LLM agent with tool use, none of which we knew at the start.”

4 March 2026: 70 participants of the Huawei track gathered at National University of Singapore to learn about the challenge details and the Huawei Cloud AI toolset available for the competition.

30 April 2026: The top 10 teams advanced through online semi-finals, with the top five teams ultimately being shortlisted.
Huawei’s Broader Commitment to Singapore's AI Future and Talent Development
This year's NAISC builds upon the highly successful 2025 challenge, which saw over 300 participants in the "AI in Smart City" track. The previous year's top teams notably utilized Huawei Cloud services to develop impactful smart city solutions, such as "SafeGuardSG," an AI-powered incident prediction platform, and "CivicAId," a conversational assistant for municipal feedback, demonstrating how these partnerships consistently generate practical innovations that address real‑world challenges.
As a key component of Huawei’s Tech4CITY initiative, an annual hackathon for youth and startup, the NAISC reflects Huawei’s dedication to harnessing AI for national priorities and the public good. Now in its fifth year, Tech4CITY has inspired over 400 innovative ideas from more than 1,300 participants, underscoring its role as a catalyst for youth‑driven solutions. This year, Tech4CITY will mandate working prototypes, fostering practical, market-ready solutions and increasing collaboration opportunities with a vibrant ecosystem of government, industry, and academic partners including IMDA, SBS Transit, and various local universities.
Complementing these efforts, Huawei also expanded its commitment to workforce transformation with its recent partnership with Singapore’s National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) in April. Under the partnership as one of NTUC’s first ‘Lead Multipliers’, Huawei will upskill existing employees and equip them with future-ready AI skills, particularly in key sectors like financial services, internet, education, and healthcare. The collaboration will also expand opportunities for local talent through internships and broader training programs, contributing to workforce transformation at scale.
