Huawei Switzerland invites Swiss students to China
Growing amount of participants in its third edition
Zürich, 21st September 2015 – Huawei Switzerland has successfully carried out the third edition of the student program called Swiss Seeds for the Future (former Global ICT).
The delegation of 16 students and 6 professors have been invited by Huawei Switzerland to visit Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Shanghai for 13 days to learn more about Huawei`s operations, portfolio and capabilities, as well as experience China`s culinary specialties and culture. The students have been selected by the Universities in an application process.

Some highlights and key facts:
- 6 participating Universities: FHNW Northwestern Switzerland, HSLU Lucerne, HES Geneva, FHS Bern, FHS St. Gallen and SUPSI
- Growing numbers of participants: 12 and 14 students in 2014. This year = 16 students
- Program is accredited with 3 ECTS credits per student, for completing the module «Global Information and Communication Technology
- 4 focus lectures about MANAGEMENT & HR , Enterprise MARKETING, R&D & INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY and CYBER SECURITY, presented by global leaders of Huawei in that area. These topics have been selected by the universities and a group of 4 students per topic prepared their presentation accordingly to this topics.
- Production plant visit in Songshan Lake Science & Tech. Industry Park in Shenzhen to learn more about high tech production in China – in this case Huawei`s Wireless products
- Exhibition hall visits for Enterprise portfolio in Shenzhen. Special interest was on Huawei`s Safe City solution.
- Visit of Huawei`s new exhibition center for Wireless products in Shanghai to learn more about the technical and commercial details for 4.5G and 5G
- Cultural program by Chinese cooking lesson, entertainment shows, local food restaurants, tea ceremony
- All students have been offered to test the Huawei flagship Smartphone P8 and Wearable B2 during the trip.
"I am very happy that SUPSI from Ticino joined the Swiss Seeds for the Future program this year for the first time” said Thomas Schmitt, Professor of the School of Engineering at FHNW. “This program is a great opportunity for all Swiss students to get first practical experience outside Switzerland, especially in China, a dynamic country driving innovation”.
Jonas Hubmann, a student of University of Applied Sciences St. Gallen, said “The trip was extremely interesting for me. I had the opportunity, to see and learn a lot about new technologies, about the organization and the structure of such a global company. I could also experience the Chinese culture, which is an impressive take away for me.”
“The program is tailored to the needs of the University of Applied Sciences and supports the education of young talents in the ICT sector in Switzerland”, said Haijun Xiao, CEO of Huawei Switzerland. “Thanks to the positive feedback of the participating universities, we plan to continue this program and expect more and more new joiners in the upcoming years.”
