Huawei Switzerland carried out the second edition of the students’ program
Bern, 8th October 2014 – Huawei Switzerland, a subsidiary of Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, has successfully carried out the second edition of the student program called Global ICT Program.
In order to promote the local young talents development and ICT education, Huawei Switzerland has set up an undergraduate student program at the beginning of the year 2014.
Following the success of its first edition in February 2014, Huawei has decided to repeat the operation and gave fourteen selected students from six Swiss Universities of Applied Sciences of different language regions (FHNW Northwestern Switzerland, HSLU Lucerne, HES-SO Geneva, FHS Bern, FHS St. Gallen and ZHAW) the opportunity to participate in a 10-days training Huawei headquarters in Shenzhen and the Shanghai R&D center, as well as visit China.
During their training the students attended lectures about HR management within Huawei, about intellectual property rights and about the development of the upcoming technologies; they could participate to a workshop on Huawei “Cloud-pipe-device strategy” and visit R&D centers as well as the production plant. Huawei experts coached them and answered their questions so the students could work on their project defined by the university in Switzerland.
Huawei organized a “graduation ceremony” for the students where they received their certificates for completing the module «Global Information and Communication Technology », which is worth 3 ECTS credits.
"I am very happy that two additional Universities joined the Global ICT Program for this second edition, which was very successful.” said Thomas Schmitt, Professor of the School of Engineering at FHNW. “It’s important to give such opportunities to students in order to offer them a first practical experience on the field, especially in China, a country driving innovation”.
Stefan Castrischer, a student of FHNW Northwestern Switzerland, said “This technical and cultural experience at Huawei HQ in China was extremely interesting and helpful for me. In these 10 days I had the big chance to see and learn a lot about the new technologies, about the organization and the structure of such a global company, Huawei and about China, through the cultural activities organized by our host.”
"It is our pleasure to foster the ICT education in Switzerland. This second edition of the Global ICT Program was very successful and I am glad that the professors and the students were satisfied with the trip and the arrangements. It is our goal to continue this program and even create more opportunities in the future, and we look forward to having more and more Swiss Universities and students take this unique chance to join our trip” said Haijun Xiao, Managing Director Huawei Switzerland.
