(Stouffville, Ontario)—Willow Springs Winery today signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Huawei Canada and a number of other technology partners to help explore ground-breaking new ‘Smart Agriculture’ wireless technology applications. The MOU was signed at an event held at Willow Springs Winery showcasing a host of early-stage innovations developed by the partners utilizing high-speed Internet technology supported by Huawei.

Fellow partners and signatories to the MOU along with Willow Springs Winery and Huawei Canada include Global UAV, ARHT Media, Telitek and Hub6. Huawei is dedicated to connecting rural and remote parts of Canada, and will continue to support work aimed at connecting all Canadians by the year 2030.

“Working with Huawei and our other technology partners we have been able to create a truly Intelligent Winery at Willow Springs, making innovative use of wireless applications to operate more efficiently and produce wines that are winning awards and drawing notice from around the world,” said Sheriden Huang, CEO of Willow Springs Winery. “This MOU will position us to build on the success we have had to date, creating tools and applications that rely on 5G technology and yield even better outcomes and greater wines,” noted Huang.

“Huawei’s vision is to bring digital to every person, home and organization for a fully connected, intelligent world and few partners display that promise as fully as Willow Springs Winery. This new MOU is a commitment to keep that momentum going,” emphasized Eric Li, President of Huawei Canada. “With 5G applications that will permit micro-climate response, help crops resist and respond to disease, as well as irrigate and use water with real-time precision. And we can do it right here in Canada, right here at Willow Springs Winery.”

“Huawei is dedicated to rural and remote connectivity. We envisage a future where every farmer in Canada has the opportunity to use smart agriculture solutions and devices on their land and in their facilities, no matter where they live. That’s why we have committed to working with our carrier partners to help connect every Canadian to high-speed Internet by 2030, including the Far North.” said Chris Pereira, Director of Public Affairs, Huawei Canada.

The MOU commits all parties to explore ways in which 5G-enabled tools can transform the agricultural sector, reshape operations and strengthen economic performance. The creation of truly Intelligent Agriculture centres on tools that help to respond to a changing climate, that better conserve and manage water and that increase efficiencies utilizing data, analytics and real-time systems response.
