Security Advisory - DoS Vulnerability in Huawei eSpace 7900 IP Phone

The Huawei eSpace 7900 IP phone cannot process some type of requests. If an intermediary device is not properly configured, such requests will be transparently sent to the eSpace 7900 phone. After receiving such requests, the phone restarts (Vulnerability ID: HWPSIRT-2015-08038).

 

This vulnerability has been assigned Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) ID: CVE-2015-8231.

The attacker could send the phone packets that cannot be processed by the phone to restart it.

The vulnerability classification has been performed by using the CVSSv2 scoring system (http://www.first.org/cvss/).

Base Score: 4.3 (AV:N/AC:M/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:P)

Temporal Score: 3.6 (E:F/RL:O/RC:C)

1. Prerequisite:

The attacker has established a session with the target phone and an intermediary device is improperly configured.

2. Attacking procedure:

The attacker sends the phone packets that cannot be processed by the phone to restart it, affecting the availability of the phone.
