[Shenzhen, China, 23 November, 2017] Today, Madam Chen, Board Director and Senior Vice President at Huawei, delivered a speech at the inaugural International Sustainability Conference to outline how businesses can deliver on both sustainable development and digital transformation. The International Sustainability Conference was held in Shenzhen, China, and was organised by four Consulate-Generals in Guangzhou – the British Consulate-General, the Australian Consulate-General, the Dutch Consulate-General and the Royal Norwegian Consulate-General.

Madam Chen joined other leading figures from across government and industry, and discussed Huawei’s commitment to the critical issue of sustainability. Businesses must address these issues in order to responsibly convert opportunities in the global market. As such, Huawei advocates a robust approach to sustainability, with a commitment to end-users. The conference brought together 300 representatives from local and international business, government, and academia to exchange ideas and best practice around environmental and social sustainability.

Speaking at the event, Madam Chen said, “For businesses to flourish internationally, sustainable development must be woven into every element of planning. To deliver on this idea of sustainable development, Huawei sticks to three guiding principles. Firstly, we don’t shy away from our responsibility to provide secure and stable network operations for our customers. Secondly, we recognise that sustainable development requires the support of technology. Finally, we ensure we can harness talent to drive innovation across our business.

“Businesses and governments must tap into the potential technology offers them, as this is the only way to ensure their business is fit for the future. At Huawei, we invest in learning and development to ensure individuals can unlock their true potential. We take particular pride in our Seeds for the Future programme, which gives training and hands-on experience to over 1,000 individuals across 96 countries and regions each year. We at Huawei are proud of our track record of collaboration, and we look forward to further partnerships between government, business and society shaping sustainable development into the future.”

The inaugural International Sustainability Conference is a one day event, and aims to support local firms to ‘Go Global’, and boost global implementation of the G20’s Action Plan on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
