Huawei Malaysia Rolls Out Red Carpet For Its First Media Awards And Appreciation Night 2022

[KUALA LUMPUR, 07 JULY 2022]: Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Huawei Malaysia) held its first ‘Huawei Media Awards and Appreciation Night 2022’ to celebrate and show their appreciation to the media for their continuous trust and support for the company in conjunction with Huawei’s 21 years in Malaysia.

To recognise the media for their excellent reporting and writing with regards to Huawei, four categories of awards were up for grabs, including ‘Best Huawei Photography and Videography’, ‘Best Huawei News in Print and Digital’, ‘Best Huawei News in Broadcast Media’, and the grand award, ‘Overall Best Huawei Story’. Huawei Malaysia received numerous news submissions from the media from diverse platforms and languages throughout June.

During the award ceremony, Shahrul Redzuan Zulkifli from Harian Metro was presented with the ‘Best Huawei Photography and Videography’ award through his video entry ‘Kerja lebih mudah dilaksanakan dengan HUAWEI MatePad Pro 5G - Tablet 5G pertama di Malaysia’. Meanwhile, the ‘Best Huawei News in Print and Digital’ category was awarded to Liew Teck Lai from Sin Chew Daily for his article, ‘Huawei recruits talented young people from all over the world with more than 5 times the salary’.

TV3’s Zainal Za'aim Zainal Ratin bagged two awards for the ‘Best Huawei News in Broadcast Media’ category and the grand award of ‘Overall Best Huawei Story’ for his entry on the Malaysian Prime Minister's visit to Huawei's Customer Solution Innovation Center (CSIC) in Kuala Lumpur, which was featured on the channel’s news bulletin, ‘Nightline’.

The judges for the awards comprised of two internal and two external judges, including Datuk Yong Soo Heong, the former Chief Executive Officer of Bernama and Mr Bazuki Muhammad, an award winning photo journalist and editor.

The guest-of-honour was the Department of Information Media and Corporate Communications Division Director Dato’ Sivabalan Ethirmanasingham who presented the award for the ‘Overall Best Huawei Story’.

The Huawei Media Awards and Appreciation Night 2022 took place at DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur and was attended by media practitioners across the nation. Huawei Asia Pacific Vice President and Human Resource (HR) Director, Mr Terry Liu gave the welcoming remarks during the event.

According to Mr Liu, one of Huawei’s main missions in Malaysia is to walk along with and assist the nation in its digital transformation journey, leveraging the power of ICT to serve the Malaysian people.

“I believe fostering and strengthening our relationship with the media is key to that mission. You are our pathway to informing Malaysia about our cutting-edge technology, ICT solutions, messages, collaborations, digital talent cultivation, as well as our steps to nurture the tech ecosystem in Malaysia.”

“The news coverage by the local media will continue to help brands like us chart our direction, as well as to stay relevant and competitive, and to bring added value to our business. It also provides us with different perspectives that may have been missed otherwise”, he added thanking all journalists and media practitioners in Malaysia for their continuous support towards Huawei Malaysia for the past 21 years.

Huawei believes the Media Awards and Appreciation Night will help to foster and strengthen the company’s relationship with the media which is a key element of Huawei’s mission to support and engage communities in paving the way for Malaysia to transform into a high-income country by leveraging technology and digitalisation.
