[KUALA LUMPUR, 23 JUNE 2022]: Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Huawei Malaysia) has launched the Seeds for the Future Alumni Fraternity to engage members to network, exchange knowledge, uncover unique opportunities, co-innovate and power experiences that enable the young people of today to shape the future of technology in the country.
In Malaysia, Huawei has partnered with the Ministry of Higher Education for the Seeds for the Future initiative since 2014, Huawei’s flagship global CSR Programme, to help students from various universities across the country level up their digital skills. Six alumni of Huawei’s Seeds for the Future are currently working with Huawei Malaysia in various positions, while others are employed elsewhere and some still pursuing their studies.
The Huawei Seeds for the Future Alumni Fraternity was launched by the guest of honour, Minister of Higher Education Datuk Seri Dr. Noraini Ahmad, in the presence of Huawei Asia Pacific Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications, Mr Zhang Zheng Jun. Also present during the ceremony were 50 members of the alumni and 16 Vice-Chancellors and representatives from local universities across the nation.
Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Seri Dr. Noraini Ahmad said the Ministry applauds Huawei’s efforts for having the foresight to establish the Huawei Seeds for the Future Alumni Fraternity as it reinforces an important part of the company’s commitment to provide a platform for members to maintain networking and collaborative alliances.
“It also provides them an avenue to reach other like-minded individuals as well as leaders and experts in the field. The setting up of the Seeds for the Future Alumni Fraternity is also in line with the idea that leadership development is a continuous journey and one, I believe, will be the foundation of long-lasting friendships.
“I hope this Alumni Fraternity will be a constant source of reference and inspiration for our young leaders in meeting future challenges,” said Datuk Seri Dr. Noraini, noting that the Huawei Seeds for the Future initiative has contributed to addressing the challenges of graduate employability, an area of great importance to her Ministry.
Seeds for the Future Alumni Fraternity President, Oscar Ling spoke about his experience being part of the Programme and how it had changed his life.
“My Huawei Seeds for the Future experience was an invaluable one. As an engineering undergraduate student, I had the opportunity to experience first-hand cutting edge technology developed by Huawei and see how all this technology is changing our daily lives and building a better-connected world.
“I believe all the Seeds for The Future alumni can resonate with my experience. Besides providing us with an opportunity to learn from a Global Fortune 500 company renowned in the ICT field, this programme also gave us a chance to establish strong social and professional networking and build lasting fraternity bonds,” he said.
Huawei Asia Pacific Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications, Mr Zhang said one of the key strengths of the Huawei Seeds for the Future programme is the establishment of strong social and professional networking as well as lasting fraternity bonds among the Seeds community.
“The Seeds for the Future Alumni Fraternity launch is designed to cement this role. As members of the Alumni are spread across the country, Huawei Malaysia will be here, providing this platform for you to network, share thoughts, collaborate, as well as reach our experts and leaders.
“Meanwhile, we see this as a continuation. We don’t want your journey with us to end when you leave the programme. We want you to know that we are there for you and that there are others like you, waiting to share their experiences and knowledge with you. The Seeds for the Future Alumni members are also an important sounding board to provide feedback to us to enhance the relevance and effectiveness of the programme. We believe the Alumni members are our best Ambassadors in making the Programme better known to the industry,” said Mr Zhang.
Seeds for the Future is designed to develop skilled, local ICT talents and bridge communication between countries and cultures. Globally, the programme has attracted participation from 137 countries, involving 12,413 students, since its launch in 2008.
Since its inception in Malaysia in 2014, Seeds for the Future has provided 116 local undergraduates with the opportunity to experience Huawei’s global business operations, cross-cultural work practices and Chinese culture.
