Huawei Malaysia Hosts Its second Annual ICT Competition 2019 – 2020 to Empower Malaysian Youth

7 Universities in Malaysia participated at the Huawei ICT Competition Malaysia 2019-2020 National Final Event

[Kuala Lumpur, March 5, 2020] The Huawei ICT Competition 2019 – 2020 has successfully concluded its second annual competition with the theme of “Connection, Glory, Future”. A total of 21 students participated in the Huawei ICT Competition 2019-2020 across seven local participating universities where the regional finals will be held in the Philippines in June 2020.

The Huawei ICT Competition is a recognised platform for students to demonstrate and showcase their skills and abilities in the area of information and communications technology. As part of the Huawei ICT Academy initiative, the competition aims to address the skills gap between requirements of the industry by partnering with local universities to nurture and produce well-rounded individuals whom are industry ready, especially in this age of digitalisation. The various categories in the competition are designed to challenge students' ability to apply cutting-edge technologies, such as big data and AI to real world situations.

At the event, Mr. David Li, Managing Director of Huawei Malaysia Enterprise Business Group said, “Here at Huawei, our objective is to promote a greater understanding of ICT through various forms of technologies training and instill practical digital skills among the students and community. With the 5G era upon us, it is imperative to transfer our cutting-edge ICT knowledge and experiences onto future generations in order to prepare them for what is to come. With the Huawei ICT Competition, we aim to encourage and reward students displaying exceptional talent, and nurture it for the future digital economy of Malaysia. The winners of this prestigious competition stand to receive industry-recognised certification, employable skills, and enjoy a range of job opportunities in the ICT sector.”

As a global ICT leader, Huawei recognises the importance of developing and shaping young talent as they contribute to the country’s economic growth with their knowledge following Huawei’s world class accredited certification system. As Malaysia begins its journey into the 5G era, there will be strong demand in the ICT professional field. Through this competition, the students gain valuable experience and industry exposure that will benefit them in their future careers and personal development. 

The participating students were from the Taylor’s University, University Malaysia Sabah (UMS), University of Malaya (UM), University of Science, Malaysia (USM), University Putra Malaysia (UPM), University Technology PETRONAS (UTP), and University Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR).
