[Cyberjaya, April 15, 2019] YB Dr Ong Kian Ming, Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry, Malaysia today visited Huawei’s first global training centre based in Cyberjaya to understand the ICT leader’s investment impact to Malaysia. The centre is aimed at positioning Malaysia as a prominent training hub for ICT technologies and talent development.

At the visit, Dr Ong Kian Ming shared, “MGTC, Huawei’s first training centre outside of China, is a good example of Malaysia’s close trade and investment ties with China. Huawei has over 2,500 employees in Malaysia of which over two-thirds are Malaysians. Huawei is further collaborating with over 300 local partners across the ICT ecosystem, deepening their operations in the Malaysian market.”

He added “Huawei has also shown great commitment in working with our local education institutions to train young Malaysians in areas such as 5G and cloud computing. Huawei’s deep investment in Malaysia since 2001 is a recognition of Malaysia's talent pool for regional and global operations. We look forward to more such partnerships as we strengthen our bilateral ties with China in the upcoming Belt & Road Forum.”

The establishment of the centre and its implementation of programs for both undergraduates and professionals has generated multiple employment opportunities in the ICT sector, contributing towards the nation’s vision of achieving a comprehensive Digital Malaysia status. It also offers training and other learning service solutions to customers, partners and employees from the company’s carrier network and enterprise business group across the world.

Since its establishment in 2012, MGTC has trained about 10,000 trainees, 60 per cent of which were Malaysians. Its local clients include Maxis Bhd, Celcom Axiata Bhd, Digi.Com Bhd and U Mobile Sdn Bhd.
