LAUNCHING OF "UTM-HUAWEI iLEARNING CLOUD SHOWCASE" BY THE MINISTER OF HIGHER EDUCATION (MoHE), YBG DATO 'SERI IDRIS JUSOH

JOHOR BAHRU (August, 10, 2017) – The Minister of Higher Education, Dato' Seri Idris Jusoh launched the UTM-Huawei iLearning Cloud Showcase at the Media and Game Innovation Centre of Excellence (MaGICX), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in collaboration with Huawei Malaysia to promote the concept of learning on-demand.

The concept of "iLearning Cloud" involves using cloud computing and big data technologies that enables current teaching and learning processes to become more interactive. By using this technology, it will provide students a more immersive learning environment in which materials are accessible wherever they are.

In this program, initiatives by the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) such as Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC), eLearning and Lifelong Learning are integrated into a cloud computing environment. Through this, students are able to interact with lecturers or specialists in different locations directly through live video conferencing. Students and lecturers can also share the learning content among different universities.

UTM-Huawei iLearning Cloud is in line with the MoHE's initiative of “Redesigning Higher Education”. Here, MaGICX assists in the innovation of digital-technology based learning for higher education in Malaysia. They believe data analytic and cloud computing are important tools to support students’ interaction with learning content in keeping with the latest digital trends through industry gadgets and internet access.

Huawei Malaysia's Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Abraham Liu stated that, "Huawei is very pleased to launch the “iLearning Cloud Showcase” with MaGICX and UTM today. Cloud is now the engine of digital transformation for almost all sectors of industry. The iLearning Cloud leverages on Huawei’s Fusioncloud platform which is a new cost-effective and agile approach to ensure teaching and learning efficiency. The platform integrates tens of thousands of multimedia content, from ICT knowledge, leadership development and project management. This will enable UTM students to have easier access to content from any device, at anytime and anywhere. Teachers can also manage class materials for students to review prior or after the class. We are confident that this initiative can help drive smart campus and connectivity development in UTM and expand to other universities in the future.”

As part of “Redesigning Higher Education” agenda, the “Juke Box” concept is an educational approach that goes beyond campuses and borders in which students can participate in programs offered and utilize facilities and resources at any university, regardless of location.

On the same day, YB Minister also launched the "Classroom of the Future".

"In response to the challenge of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and in line with the MoHE's intention to Redesigning Higher Education, UTM has implemented various initiatives by introducing the concept of Classroom of the Future," said Prof. Datuk Ir. Dr. Wahid Bin Omar, UTM Vice-Chancellor.

Apart from YB Minister, present at the ceremony were UTM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Ir. Dr. Wahid Bin Omar, MoHE Secretary-General, Tan Sri Dr. Noorul Ainur Mohd. Nur, Director-General of MoHE, and Datin Paduka Ir. Dr. Siti Hamisah Binti Tapsir.
