[Nairobi Kenya, September 9, 2019] Zetech University furthered its partnership with Huawei Technologies in an effort to enhance IT training and equip learners with the requisite skills to address national and global challenges through ICT. This comes in the wake of rapid digital growth in Kenya which is a key contributor to the expansion of the global digital economy in Africa.
The IT firm announced that it has identified Zetech University as the first institution in the country to engage with the firm on training in the latest technologies including cloud computing, artificial intelligence and advanced levels of ICT training.
Speaking at the donation of ultra-modern training equipment to enhance the institution’s Faculty of ICT and Engineering, Ms. Su Shuqi, the Training and Certification Manager, Enterprise Business Department at Huawei, said, “We are pleased to partner with Zetech in the provision of quality training to produce future ICT leaders. This is the most active partnership we have in Kenya and we are excited to help learners exploit the true potential of technology to drive growth, and adjust to changing global market demands.” said Ms Shuqi.
In the timely move, Huawei provided equipment including modern routers, switches and management devices to enhance the training process; the University will use the resources to teach students through a vibrant Huawei ICT Academy established at the institution. The donation also serves as an appreciation to the University for leveraging on the collaboration to become the best Huawei Academy in Kenya and producing the best lecturer and student in Kenya, during the Huawei ICT competition 2018-2019.
Zetech University Vice Chancellor Prof. Njenga Munene lauded the firm for the commitment to ICT education, saying, “We value this engagement continues to build our students’ skills to better enable them respond to current trends in ICT.” said Prof. Munene. He added that the institution is keen on long-term collaborations that will be channeled to develop the Zetech innovation Hub which is continually growing as a center for innovation for students and faculty.
The institution first signed an MOU with Huawei to become a Huawei Authorized Information Network Academy (HAINA) in May 2018. The programme assists Universities in producing a skilled workforce to drive continued transformation of the economy.
