European students celebrate global success

The 8th Huawei ICT Competition Global Finals culminates with 9 teams across 5 countries in Europe winning global awards

[Shenzhen, China, 26 May 2024] The Awards Ceremony of the 8th Huawei ICT Competition 2023-2024 Global Finals was held in Shenzhen, China.

This 8th competition has been the largest offline Huawei ICT Competition to-date, attracting 700 student registrations, from 100 institutions across more than 20 countries across Europe to register. After progressing through national and regional levels of the competition, 9 finalist teams from 5 European countries were selected to represent Europe at the global finals in Shenzhen, China. The 5 European countries represented at the global finals were; Spain, Italy, Turkey, Poland and Greece.

The annual global final Huawei ICT Competition exam is a high level, technical and fierce competition seeing the best talent across the globe competing for top prizes. The Europe teams performed outstandingly in the global exams; winning 2 grand prizes, 4 second prizes and 3 third prizes; achieving the best result to-date since the start of the Competition: Grand prizes went to, Poland – Poznań University of Technology (Network Track, Practice Competition), Türkiye – Team EdusynTech from MEF University (AI Track, Innovation Competition), 2nd place prizes were won by; Italy – Università Politecnica delle Marche (Network Track), Italy – Klabs Academy (Cloud Track), Poland - Poznań University of Technology (Cloud Track), Greece – University of Macedonia (Innovation Track), whilst 3rd place prizes went to Spain and Türkiye; Spain – University of Alicante (Network Track), Türkiye – Yalova University (Cloud Track) and Erzurum Technical University (Computing Track).

Kaan BAŞKURT, Consul General of Türkiye in Guangzhou, presented the Grand Prize Award to the Türkiye Innovation winning team. The student team leader Arda Gökalp Batmaz delivered an acceptance speech and introduced their innovation competition project design, an AI-based educational mobile application to identify dyslexia and provide support for children aged 6-13. He expressed his gratitude saying, “Thank you Huawei, for recognizing our project and providing a great opportunity for young innovators like us to showcase our skills and ideas to the world. The exceptional quality of the 8th Huawei ICT Competition reflects Huawei's efforts to support young talent and promote innovation in the ICT field.”

On May 23, the first Huawei ICT Academy Most Valuable Instructor (MVI) Global Forum was held in Shenzhen. After a serials of selection process, 3 outstanding teachers from Europe were selected to receive the Global MVI Award 2024, MVI award winning instructors are from Türkiye – Yalova University, Italy – Università Politecnica delle Marche, and Spain – University of Alicante.

On May 25, during the Huawei ICT Competition 2023-2024 Global Finals, teams visited the Huawei Xi Liu Bei Po Village and Exhibition Halls, enjoying the scenery, seeing demonstrations on cutting edge technologies and learning about Huawei’s leading research and practices in the ICT field.
