Huawei Canada and Seneca Win Markham Board of Trade Business Excellence Award
Markham, ON, November 9, 2017 – Last night, Huawei Canada and Seneca took home the Markham Board of Trade Business Excellence Award for Innovation. The two organizations teamed up to launch the first Huawei Authorized Learning Partner (HALP) program in Canada, delivering industry-leading training in Huawei Enterprise products and solutions through a leading academic institution.
“We are proud to call Markham home,” said Steve Lu, President, Huawei Canada. “The ability to build a strong, collaborative relationship with Seneca – literally across the road from our headquarters – reinforces the tremendous technology ecosystem that exists within our community.”
In its inaugural year, HALP offered three programs (HCNA-Storage, HCS Server and HCS Storage) to 57 students over 27 class days. The first-of-its-kind program leverages Huawei’s global expertise in delivering global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions to a Canadian learning institution to empower students with new skills and training.
“We plan to continue this partnership in the coming years with expansion already in mind,” added Lu. “This unique, made in Markham program is a great example of the amazing results that can be achieved when companies, institutions and local and provincial governments work together. We hope it will not only serve as a model to others here in Canada, but in similar markets around the world.”
"On behalf of Seneca, I am delighted to congratulate Huawei on receiving the 2017 Markham Board of Trade Business Excellence Award for Innovation," said Seneca President David Agnew. "We were proud to be designated as the first Huawei Authorized Learning Partner in North America, and it has been a privilege to work with this outstanding company for the benefit of Seneca students, Huawei corporate partners and the City of Markham."
Within the program, Huawei Canada is responsible for providing knowledge and equipment, training the course instructors and providing experts for the workshops. Seneca is responsible for arranging the courses, recruiting students, providing classrooms and organizing instructors. HALP is also partially funded by the Ontario government.
The Markham Board of Trade Business Excellence Awards celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit, success, and business ingenuity.
