Huawei Wins “Best Contribution to LTE R&D” Award
Huawei pockets the top two LTE R&D awards in Europe and North America following successful Australian trials
Australia & Texas, USA, 12 November, 2010: Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation network solutions for operators around the world, today announced that it has won the “Best Contribution to R&D for LTE in North America” award at LTE North America 2010. The top-tier LTE award in the US follows a spate of global LTE success stories, including live trials with Australian operators in the 1800MHz band. Earlier this year, Huawei was awarded the “Best Contribution to Research and Development for LTE” award in May at LTE World Summit 2010 in Amsterdam. This award recognizes Huawei’s contributions to LTE R&D, as well as to the LTE ecosystem through patents, customer innovation centers, and labs worldwide.
“This award further cements Huawei’s leadership position in the LTE technology space,” said Huawei Australia CTO Peter Rossi. “Our live trials in Australia have produced spectacular results and globally we’re forging ahead with commercial LTE deployments. This award for the best contribution to R&D for LTE in North America is a great win for Huawei’s R&D team, with Huawei now ranking number one among all vendors for essential LTE patents.”
Ying Weimin, President of LTE product line, Huawei, said, “Huawei has supported LTE/LTE-Advanced through a growing R&D undertaking. The award is the best evidence of Huawei’s strong capability and leading position in LTE R&D and our continuous efforts to accelerate LTE commercialisation.”
Huawei has invested heavily in the development of the LTE technology since 2004, including a focused commitment to North American development by opening R&D centers in the United States and Canada. These laboratories allow North American operators and industry partners to explore and experience Huawei’s latest industry-leading LTE end-to-end solutions first-hand.
As of October, 2010, Huawei was ranked No.1 in the world with 18 commercial LTE contracts and more than 70 LTE trials. To date, Huawei has submitted over 5,800 LTE/EPC (Evolved Packet Core) standard proposals to 3GPP and holds 270 essential LTE patents in ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute), ranking No.1 among all vendors.
