Terengganu Partners with Huawei to drive ICT growth through its Digital Transformation Roadmap

Kuala Lumpur, November 9, 2017 – In line with the nation’s digital transformation agenda, the State Government of Terengganu and Huawei Malaysia, a leading global information communications (ICT) solutions provider, exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today to jointly design the State’s Digital Transformation Roadmap. The exchange ceremony took place at Huawei’s first Asia Pacific Innovation Day in Kuala Lumpur and was attended by Terengganu State Secretary, YB. Dato’ Wan Nawawi Bin Hj. Wan Ismail and Huawei Malaysia’s Chief Executive Officer, Abraham Liu. It was witnessed by YB Dato’ Seri Ahmad Zahid bin Hamidi, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan, Second International Trade and Industry Minister, and Mr Guo Ping, Deputy Chairman of the Board, Rotating CEO, Huawei. 



The Roadmap aims to bring latest digital technologies and ICT solutions to the State, with Huawei providing technical expertise and business support in implementing the transformation plan. The plan will capitalize on four main ICT-enablers: Broadband infrastructure, Cloud infrastructure, Innovation, and Human capital.

The partnership will see the building of cost effective ICT infrastructure and data centers promoting faster and stable broadband connection with a wider range of coverage. With this the State will be able to leverage on Internet of Things and the use of smart application platforms to implement digital solutions across vertical industries such as education, transportation, healthcare, retail, security, industrial factories, smart homes, energy grids and others. This project will also include open sharing of ICT knowledge through a state wide training program in hopes to drive socio-economic development.

The State of Terengganu has produced high-achieving students based on their track record of achieving high scores during national exams. At present, the State has a total of 12 public and private educational institutions, some representing tertiary level education. A comprehensive and complete curriculum will help improve the State's skilled talent pool in which ultimately will stimulate further economic development and growth from this region.

Present for the MoU exchange, YB. Dato’ Wan Nawawi Bin Hj. Wan Ismail remarked, “Connectivity is important in the socio-economic development of Terengganu, along with nurturing of digital talents and fostering a digital mindset. We look forward to support from Huawei in further developing the IT infrastructure of the State and making it easier for people to embrace e-commerce as a tool to thrive in a digital era.”
