MIMOS and Huawei come together to sign Memorandum of Understanding at Huawei Connect 2017

Shanghai, China, September 6, 2017 – At Huawei Connect 2017, Huawei Malaysia and MIMOS, Malaysia’s National Research and Development Centre for ICT, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work together in identifying opportunities related to public safety and smart city projects across the region and jointly develop solutions with Huawei’s Openlab and MIMOS’ Open Innovation Platform.

Jack Jiang Hong, Vice President Enterprise Business Group, Huawei Malaysia and Thillai Raj T. Ramanathan, Chief Technology Officer, MIMOS Berhad signing the MoU

According to Ahmad Rizan Ibrahim, CEO of MIMOS, “As our cities continue to expand in size and complexity, there is an increasing need for technology and innovative solutions to keep our infrastructure, services and citizens safe and protected. It is important that these solutions can help citizens and authorities to detect, mitigate and prevent safety issues. We are working towards investing in smart initiatives especially when it comes to public safety that will help push the region forward. Partnerships with ICT giants like Huawei contribute to the broader Smart City initiative.”

The partnership will see discussions in an exchange of intelligence to develop technology solutions using both Huawei’s Openlab and MIMOS’ Open Innovation Platform. Both parties intend to work together in the research and development of public safety, based on intelligent video cloud solution in the area of smart city.

Abraham Liu Kang, CEO of Huawei Malaysia commented, “Public safety has become a growing concern for cities and a top priority for governments worldwide. This is why Huawei as a leading global ICT solutions provider continues to work towards innovative solutions that can increase public safety. Bringing in modern day solutions that rely on networks of connected devices, we aim to work with governments in safeguarding the business and tourism environment of countries. In doing so, we recognise the important role MIMOS plays in identifying and generating solutions. We look forward to strengthening our partnership with MIMOS by introducing new and more Huawei technologies and sharing best practices in an effort to jointly develop innovative smart city solutions.”

“We combine cloud platforms and intelligent analytics to improve effectiveness and efficiency of authorities to ensure a safe environment for the public. The implementation of newer tools would improve public services in crime-fighting, reducing response time to emergencies and enhancing overall public perception. No matter where we are, we are always helping to create a more livable environment,” Abraham added

Huawei first signed an agreement with MIMOS back in 2015 in an effort to promote and develop big data analysis and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions for industry applications. For the past 16 years, Huawei has remained committed in supporting Malaysia’s aspiration to transform into a regional ICT hub.

In its second year, Huawei Connect 2017 held in Shanghai sees the theme of “Grow with the Cloud” in an effort to address the ICT ecosystem worldwide. The integrated conference is aimed at bringing industries together in exploring the cloud era trends and how all can achieve digital transformation by developing cloud technology and contributing to the cloud ecosystem.
