Over 100 students benefit from the Huawei Seeds for the Future internship since the MOU signing with ICT Authority

Huawei flagged off the 6th cohort of 10 students for the annual Seeds for the Future two week training in China starting Monday 28th October 2019 till 8th November 2019. The two part training will have the students undergo Chinese language and culture training at the Beijing Language and Culture University (BCLU) and at the Huawei University on 4G, 5G, AI and Cloud computing during the second week whilst visiting the state of the art Huawei labs in Shenzhen.

The selection criteria was rigorous ensuring that only the best performing interns were picked. In addition to the training, the students will get to have an extensive city tour visiting the Great Wall of China, The Summer Palace, Forbidden City among other places thus giving them an authentic experience of the Chinese history and culture.

The students currently in their 3rd, 4th and 5th year were selected from seven different universities namely Machakos University, Multi Media University, South Eastern Kenya University, Maseno University, Chuka University, Dedan Kimathi University and Technical University.

Following our Digitruck partnership with Safaricom Blaze, Peter Mwangi from Technical University of Kenya one of Blaze outstanding beneficiaries was nominated to take part in the internship program and would later proceed to travel to china for the training with the rest of the students.

Irvine Lumumba a student from the Multimedia University and also a Huawei Campus Ambassador expressed his delight in getting awarded with this lifetime opportunity to learn firsthand on some of the cutting edge technology at the Huawei University.

The program commenced in 2014 after Huawei signed an MOU with ICT Authority and later renewed it in 2017.The partnership focuses on capacity building, knowledge transfer through upskilling top engineering students selected from various universities ensuring that the skill gap that’s prominent in the current job market  is addressed amongst others.

Over the past 5 years, 125 students have gone through the internship program and 47 have travelled to china for training.

The students will be awarded with certificates at the end of the training at a graduation ceremony that will be held alongside their counterparts from Singapore and Nigeria.
