Huawei supports Tour De Cure with $50,000 sponsorship
Australia, 3 May 2013: Huawei Australia today presented a cheque for $50,000 to the Tour De Cure, supporting the cause for the third consecutive year. The cheque was presented this morning on the Sunrise TV program in Albury, NSW, by Huawei Australia Corporate Affairs Director Jeremy Mitchell who completed a 2-day guest ride as part of Huawei’s sponsorship.
“The Tour De Cure is a fantastic organisation and Huawei is proud to be able to support this great cause for the third consecutive year,” said Mr Mitchell. “We hope this $50,000 donation from Huawei Australia helps the Tour De Cure to reach its fundraising target, and gets us a bit closer to the goal of finding a cure for cancer.”
Huawei will also support the cause with an additional $15,000 donation towards a celebration dinner at the conclusion of the tour, to be hosted at the National Press Club in Canberra.
The Tour De Cure is charity dedicated to finding a cure for cancer, and hosts a number of major cycling events annually to raise funds for cancer research and education initiatives. The 2013 Tour De Cure ‘Signature Tour’ is a 1,521km ride from Adelaide to Canberra, concluding this Sunday May 5th. So far, the 2013 Signature Tour has raised over $2 million and has the goal of reaching $2.3 million this year.
Mr Mitchell said he completed his part in the ride in honour of his late father. Mr Mitchell rode in Tour Stages 2 and 3, from Victor Harbour to Meningie (143km) then from Meningie to Bordertown (161km) on Saturday 27th and Sunday 29th April.
"This is Huawei’s third year with us and it is great to have them on board again as a corporate partner of Tour de Cure,” said Tour De Cure co-founder Geoff Coombes. “It was great to have Huawei’s own Jeremy Mitchell join us as a guest rider and help raise funds and awareness to help cure cancer, particularly in this very special year when we, together with all of our Corporate Partners, have raised over $10 million in the fight against cancer. During the 2013 Signature Tour we’re going to inspire 7,500 men, women and children and raise over $2.3 million to find a cure for cancer. It’s great to see a brand like Huawei put so much care and compassion towards Australian health issues.”
