Huawei congratulates Optus and vividwireless

2012.02.20

AUSTRALIA February 20, 2012 – Huawei Australia has offered its congratulations to Optus and vividwireless on plans to bring cutting-edge 4G LTE-TDD (Long Term Evolution Time-Division Duplexing) mobile broadband to Australia. Following the announcement of Optus’ proposed acquisition of vividwireless, Huawei – the only vendor to have successfully tested LTE-TDD in Australia – has said that LTE-TDD will offer breakthrough mobile data speeds across the country.

Huawei and vividwireless successfully trialled LTE-TDD in early 2011, delivering peak speeds as high as 128 Mbps and typical download speeds ranging from 25Mbps to 87Mbps*. Huawei has been vividwireless’ technology partner since the company announced the deployment of Australia’s first 4G WiMAX network in Perth, which was delivered in just 6 short months and launched in March 2010. Huawei also successfully delivered the world’s first commercial deployment of ‘beamforming’ technology for the vividwireless network just months after the 2010 launch. Huawei’s technology is used in all of vividwireless’ networks across Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra and Brisbane.

Huawei and Optus have successfully conducted LTE-FDD (Frequency Division Duplexing) trials, and connected Australia’s first LTE data call in the 700MHz ‘Digital Dividend’ spectrum band in November 2011. Huawei is also delivering Optus’ 900MHz mobile network across rural and regional Australia.

“Huawei’s local trials of LTE-TDD showed just how effective this technology would be across Australia,” said Huawei Australia CTO Peter Rossi. “Huawei deployed the world’s first LTE-TDD network in Shanghai during 2010, and has over 60 commercial LTE network contracts globally – making Huawei the world’s #1 LTE vendor. This technology will ensure Australians have access to the fastest mobile broadband speeds using a range of innovative devices.”

Huawei launched the world’s first multi-mode Mobile Wi-Fi device at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this January, capable of delivering mobile broadband over TDD and FDD LTE as well as UMTS and GSM. Huawei has launched the world’s largest LTE-TDD network with Softbank in Japan, as well as the world’s first joint LTE TDD/FDD network in Poland.

Huawei is the world’s #1 LTE essential patent holder amongst telecoms infrastructure vendors, and is also the #1 vendor for contributions to the 3GPP LTE Core Specification since 2010, with 260+ approved contributions.
