Huawei Announces Telepresence 2.0 at Gartner Symposium/ITxpo 2011
GARTNER SYMPOSIUM/ITxpo, GOLD COAST, 15 NOVEMBER, 2011 – Huawei Enterprise today announced the Australian launch of its latest Telepresence 2.0 systems at Gartner Symposium/ITxpo 2011. Offering 30% lower bandwidth consumption than the industry average with full high-definition 1080p video and superb surround sound, the systems break new ground in offering full Telepresence interoperability through open-standards based technology.
“Telepresence has been held back in Australia for three main reasons: affordability, connectivity, and interoperability,” said Huawei Australia Enterprise GM Gavin Milton- White. “Huawei Telepresence 2.0 changes all that. Huawei’s latest innovation now makes Telepresence more affordable than ever before, uses 30% less bandwidth than the industry average, and is built entirely on open standards – breaking down all three barriers which have hampered Telepresence adoption in Australia.”
Three models of Telepresence 2.0 were launched: one model for between 3-6 users (TP3106), and two room-immersive systems for either 6-14 users (TP3118S) or 6-18 users (TP3118). Huawei became the first company to successfully demonstrate full interoperability between Huawei Telepresence and competitor equipment in Australia just weeks ago, connecting AARNet (Australia’s Academic and Research Network) sites in Sydney, Melbourne, and Canberra. Mr Milton-White said that interoperability was key to the mainstream success of Telepresence technology.
“Enterprises can now finally invest in Telepresence without worrying that they’ll end up locked into a single vendor’s orphaned technology,” Mr Milton-White said. “Until now, Telepresence has only been a viable option for blue-chip Enterprises with extensive IT budgets and highly trained support staff. The launch of Huawei Telepresence 2.0 makes this next-generation technology available to everyone else.”
Huawei’s Telepresence is built on an open platform that can be integrated with existing unified communications systems, IP multimedia subsystems and traditional video conferencing systems. The use of open standards-based technology means that users can participate in telepresence conferences anytime, anywhere, and on any smart device. As the telepresence system is easy to use and manage, Huawei Telepresence can be widely leveraged to improve communications across various industries and organisations, including in education, healthcare, courthouses and emergency response units.
Huawei has over 600 patent applications in video conferencing and is also a key member of various industry standards organisations. Huawei's telepresence products have been deployed in more than 50 countries including Australia, Brazil, India, Mexico, South Africa, and the United Kingdom.
