Nucleus Connect Selects Huawei as Active Network Solution Provider for Singapores Next Gen NBN
Huawei’s end-to-end ALL IP broadband network solution will deliver bandwidth speeds up to 1Gbps
Sydney AUSTRALIA, 23 September, 2009: Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, today announced it will develop Singapore’s Next Generation National Broadband Network (Next Gen NBN), a nation-wide ultra-high-speed broadband network to deliver bandwidth services ranging from 100Mbps to 1Gbps to residential and business users. It has been awarded the end-to-end network solution contract by Nucleus Connect, a subsidiary of StarHub.
The Next Gen NBN will be the world’s first Open Access FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) network using GPON and Active Ethernet access technology and multi-service MPLS IP Core technology.
Commenting on how the Singapore Next Gen NBN might influence Australia’s own plans for a national broadband network, Huawei Australia CTO, Peter Rossi said, “There are strong parallels to the Rudd Government’s NBN. No doubt NBNCo will be watching closely how well the FTTP infrastructure is developed and the ability of vendors and service providers to deliver promised benefits to users.”
Rossi believes the future progress of Singapore’s Next Gen NBN will provide Australia with a reference point in terms of the calibre of vendors.
“The NBN will need a vendor capable of handling interoperability issues and the capacity and experience of successfully dealing with such a large-scale project. There are only a couple of vendors who can tick all those boxes and who have the international track record for offering complete end-to-end solutions.” said Rossi.
On 3 April 2009, Nucleus Connect was appointed by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) to design, build and operate the active infrastructure of the Next Gen NBN.
Huawei will be the prime integrator providing the end-to-end full turn-key active network solution and professional EOT (Establish, Operate, Transfer) services for the entire Next Gen NBN in the seven year contract. The offering includes 80-Tbps IP core Clustering Router, Next Generation DWDM optical transmission, Aggregation Service Router, Terabit GPON access platform, Carrier Ethernet Switch, Multi-service ONTs and the Unified Network Management System for the entire active network.
Huawei has become the forerunner in IP and optical access networks. As the leading FTTx solution provider, serving six of the world's top 10 operators, including Telefonica, Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone, Huawei has gained rich FTTx construction experience.
