Security Advisory - Arbitrary URL Loading Vulnerability in TripAdvisor

The TripAdvisor app pre-installed in some Huawei mobile phones have an arbitrary URL loading vulnerability due to insufficient input validation and improper configuration. An attacker may exploit this vulnerability to invoke TripAdvisor to load a specific URL and execute malicious code contained in the URL. (Vulnerability ID: HWPSIRT-2018-01110)

 

This vulnerability has been assigned a Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) ID: CVE-2017-17226.

An attacker may exploit this vulnerability to invoke TripAdvisor to load a specific URL and execute malicious code contained in the URL.

The vulnerability classification has been performed by using the CVSSv3 scoring system (http://www.first.org/cvss/specification-document).

This vulnerability can be exploited only when the following conditions are present:  

The attacker has successfully tricked a user into installing the malicious application. 

Vulnerability details:  

The TripAdvisor app pre-installed in some Huawei mobile phones have an arbitrary URL loading vulnerability due to insufficient input validation and improper configuration. An attacker may exploit this vulnerability to invoke TripAdvisor to load a specific URL and execute malicious code contained in the URL.

Users can access and upgrade the fix version through the major APP store.
