HISTORY

Seeds for the Future is Huawei's global Corporate Social Responsibility flagship program as well as the longest - lasting Corporate Social Responsibility initiative than any of our other Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives around the world. The program was first launched in 2008 in Thailand aiming to nurture local ICT talents. Huawei provided participants - who were university students majored in telecommunications - with free trainings on communications equipment and hands - on training.

Thailand Seeds for the Future 2020 Local Opening Ceremony

Until 2019, the Seeds for the Future program offered top STEM students the opportunity to visit and study in China. They studied cutting-edge ICT technology at Huawei's headquarters and gathered experience through hands-on practice in a cross-cultural environment. Over 5,770 students traveled to China to receive training.

In 2020, in order to maintain program continuity during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Seeds for the Future program was held online for the first time. The online program supports live learning and real-time engagement across borders. It's our alternative for providing the benefits of the program virtually across borders during a global pandemic.

In 2020, Seeds for the Future global alumni community was created on LinkedIn, a space for brilliant minds from different countries, cultures and educational backgrounds who are interested in future technologies. In 2021, Huawei started to organize a series of online global alumni events within the community.

In 2022, the very first offline regional alumni event, “Seeds for the Future Alumni Reunion - Northern Africa”, was held in Tunis.LinkedIn page was officially launched later in the same year.

COMMITTED TO DIVERSITY

Here in Huawei we value diversity. In 2018, we committed to at least one-third of Seeds participants being women. In 2021, the female participation rate reached 37%, including three countries with 100% female participation rate - Ghana, Suriname and Slovenia.
