Our Solution

Intelligent management

Huawei’s iODN is the industry's first intelligent optical fiber management system that manages optical fiber in bulk across an FTTH network, while aiding the management of fiber connections and splitters intelligently, leading to enhancements in both fiber deployment scale and O&M efficiency.

This solution uses an eID tag, the first of its kind in the industry, to replace traditional paper tags. With this system, the eID tool automatically reads eID tag data at both ends of the patch cord to determine an optical fiber connection, allowing operators to collect & record information easily and ensuring correct port status and optimal resource utilization.

Both the iField system and element management system (EMS) are interconnected so that fiber management is intelligent, as iODN nodes, including the intelligent optical distribution frame (iODF), intelligent fiber distribution terminal (iFDT), and intelligent fiber access terminal (iFAT), can share their information with the work order, customer relationship management (CRM), and resource management systems. The ODN testing system includes the optical line system (OLS), ensuring intelligent project acceptance and fiber fault diagnostics.

Simplified deployment

FTTH construction is typically lengthy and complex, but Huawei’s experience in optical access network construction and other turnkey projects enables us to deliver a one-stop solution for rapid deployment.

Huawei can fully adapt its network planning for different scenarios. For an FTTH network with modest user penetration, Huawei can aid both optical route selection and product configuration; this reduces the upfront network investment, making later upgrade all the much easier. Huawei innovations (electronic labels) can also aid the product design and deployment processes, so that service provisioning and overall efficiency are optimal.

In terms of installation, pre-connection eliminates onsite splicing and makes functionality “plug-and-play” simple; this cuts the man hours involved by half and frees up your senior engineers for more worthy activities. Extensive use of FMC connectors on site also accelerates service provisioning, and reduces the need to send engineers and tools outside the office.

Smooth evolution

As a deployed ODN can operate for 50 to 100 years, its evolutionary path should be considered before the fiber is laid. With 10G PON proving the principal replacement for PON, Huawei iODN incorporates combiners with built-in optical splitters, so that PON-10G PON interaction is smooth, as is the upgrade of the former to the latter (no service interruptions). As a bonus, iODN features ultra-low signal loss, which helps increase transmission distance by up to 4km.

A good network plan makes itself known when construction costs are tallied and during the network upgrade process. Huawei’s ODN planning tools can help define an optimal network model, while delivering a 25% cut in deployment costs to boot. The system integrates the network planning experience of over 50 experts and 100 proven network planning models, so that operators can better predict the path & scale of their network expansion, which should minimize the wastage of network resources. Based on its built-in algorithms, the system can export a network design plan with a only few parameters entered, which helps improve network planning efficiency by over 50% and reduces manual input.
