Challenges

Mobile data traffic is growing dramatically as networks transition from GSM to UMTS/LTE, making bandwidth a priority for operators, while TDM networks that once bore ATM and Ethernet services are transitioning to All-IP; their smooth evolution is key, as are network deployment and operation & maintenance (O&M) efficiency.

Huawei’s Solution

To address these challenges, Huawei offers an IP-based broadband microwave solution.

Higher bandwidth

Multilayer header compression, on its own, delivers 1Gbps throughput for each carrier. Compared with 256QAM, 1024QAM enables 22% improved bandwidth utilization, making it the primary microwave modulation scheme for LTE. When combined with XPIC, the solution yields 2Gpbs overall throughput per carrier.

Smooth evolution

This TDM/Hybrid/Packet integrated platform can easily adapt to the mobile backhaul requirements of different phases of evolution. With a complete product series, this solution adapts to different application scenarios, while the split radio transmission enables multi-service access and robust service aggregation (up to 14 transmission directions). Moreover, FO enables zero footprint installation, while E-band can be applied to broadband short-haul networking. This solution also supports the IEEE 1588v2 scheme for comprehensive service precision over fiber, copper, or microwave.

O&M efficiency

While differentiating QoS, this solution enables flexible service developed through dual-core cross-connect boards. Operators can enhance network O&M efficiency by 30% as MPLS-TP is supported, enabling interoperability with routers or Hybrid-MSTP equipment, so that QoS, OAM, and clock synchronization are all done in an end-to-end manner.

During microwave network planning, operators can reduce their site surveys and service provisioning time, while enhancing project delivery and troubleshooting efficiency; all contribute to reduced TCO and enhanced O&M efficiency.

Applications & Benefits

Huawei's IP microwave solution has been adopted all over the world. As of the end of 2011, more than 300,000 microwave hops have been in reliable operation in over 100 countries, enabling All-IP transformation for operators such as Aircel, Etisalat, MTN, OT, Telefonica, T-Mobile, Telenor, VDF, China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom.
