Founded in 1987, Huawei is a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider. Since 1999, the company has been serving Africa's top telecoms operators via its Carrier Network business group, and more recently, Huawei launched its Consumer and Enterprise business groups. Africa is a fast growing region for Huawei, where core business areas include solutions for operators, Global Services, consumers, and enterprises. Huawei solutions are deployed by more than 60 operators in more than 20 African countries.
In 2011, Huawei recorded USD 3.42 billion in revenues in Africa; a year-over-year increase of 15%, representing 13% of the company’s total global annual sales revenues.
Huawei has established three regional headquarters in Africa, in South Africa, Nigeria and Egypt. The company also built one R&D center in South Africa and seven training centers located in Angola, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt，Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, and South Africa. Huawei has more than 5,800 employees in Africa, over 60% of whom were locally recruited.
Breakdown By Region
In 1999, Huawei established its North African headquarters in Cairo, Egypt. Huawei now has over 2,000 employees, of whom 70% are local hires, in offices across 20 countries in North Africa, including Algeria, Cape Verde, Chad, Cyprus, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Libya, Mali, Malta, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Senegal and Tunisia.
Customers in the region include: Algeria Telecom(Algeria), Orascom(Egypt), Vodafone, Etisalat Misr (Egypt), Mobinil (Egypt), Libyana (Libya), Maroc Telecom Group (Morocco), and Orange Divona (Tunisia).
In 2011, in Egypt, Huawei achieved OHSAS 18001 (Occupation Health Safety Management System) certification, a confirmation that the highest international standards of quality and safety are being followed. Huawei is the only ICT solution provider to receive this certification in Egypt.
East and South Africa
In 1999, Huawei established its East and South African headquarters in Johannesburg, South Africa, which now serves as the headquarters for the entire East and South African region. With over 2,000 employees, Huawei’s presence in the region includes seven representative offices, four training centers and one R&D center focused on software. A newly built training center in the Democratic Republic ofCongo began operating in early 2012; it is integrated and comprehensive and primarily serves the French-speaking region. These four training centerstrainmore than 3,000 students on average each year. For example, in Kenya in 2010, Huawei established the first-ever vendor telecoms training center in East and Central Africa; 4,500 customers were trained in 2010 and 1,300 in 2011.
Customers in the region include: Vodacom (South Africa), Telkom (South Africa), MTN (South Africa), Neotel (South Africa), Cell C (South Africa), Unitel (Angola), Movicel (Angola), MSTelcom (Angola), Angola Telecom (Angola), Safaricom (Kenya), Orange/Telkom Kenya (Kenya), Essar, CCK and Kenyan government.
Huawei entered the Western Africa region in 1999 and established its regional headquarters in Lagos, Nigeria. Customers in the region include: Starcomms (Benin), Etisalat (Burkina Faso), Camtel (Cameroon), MTN Cameroon (Cameroon), Etisalat (Central African Republic), MTN Côte d’Ivoire (Côte d’Ivoire), Etisalat (Côte d’Ivoire), Airtel (India), MTN Ghana (Ghana), Lonestar Cell (Liberia), MTN Nigeria (Nigeria), Glo Mobile (Nigeria), Starcomms (Nigeria), Multi-Links (Nigeria).
In 2010, in Cameroon, Huawei successfully deployed the National Broadband Network. In Lagos, Nigeria, Huawei set up one of its three global network operations centers (GNOCs), which is expected to begin operations by July 2012; the other GNOCs are located in India and Romania.

Huawei creates solutions that enable customers to reduce power consumption, carbon emissions and costs, thus contributing to the development of the society, economy, and the environment across Africa.To date, Huawei has helped 18 African governments build E-Government networks in countries, such as Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Senegal, Angola, Guinea, and Djibouti, enabling 250 million Africans in rural areas enjoy affordable communication services.
