Local Board Directors

In June 2011, Huawei Australia announced the creation of a local Board of Directors - Huawei’s first local Board anywhere in the world. The Board is comprised of two independent local Directors, including the Chairman, and three Huawei Directors from Huawei’s local, regional, and global offices.

As well as Chairman of Huawei Technologies (Australia), John is presently Chairman of DMS Maritime Services Pty Ltd and a member of the Victorian Government’s Defence Council as well as other State Government Boards. In a voluntary capacity he is Captain and Chairman of Huntingdale Golf Club. He is a former Chief Executive and Director of the Marine Board of Victoria, and a member of the Australian Maritime Group and the National Plan Committee for maritime emergency responses around Australia. John was Executive Director of P&O Maritime Services, and was also a Director of Australian Maritime Systems, Austen Maritime Services Pte based in Singapore, and P&O Maritime Services UK and South Africa. He served with the Royal Australian Navy for over 36 years and retired with the rank of Rear Admiral.

Independent Director
John Brumby is the former Premier of Victoria (2007 – 2010). He has immense experience in public life serving for more than 10 years as Treasurer and then Premier of Victoria, 6 years as Leader of the Victorian Opposition and 7 years as Federal MHR for Bendigo during the period of the Hawke Government. Mr Brumby holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Melbourne and a Diploma of Education from the State College of Victoria, Rusden. Since retiring from politics, Mr Brumby has accepted a number of Board positions as well as a joint appointment to both Melbourne and Monash Universities as a Vice-Chancellor’s Professorial Fellow.

Mr James (Zhao) Xichu is the CEO for Huawei Australia. James first joined Huawei in 2000 as a radio engineer, later working as a sales manager in China. During 2004-2011, James was appointed Managing Director & Chief Operating Officer of Huawei Indonesia, overseeing sales growth from US$30m to $1.5bn. Most recently, James was appointed global account MD for Bharti Airtel in 2011, a role which spanned 20 countries in India and Africa.
The appointment of James as Australian CEO follows Huawei’s global practice of rotating senior executives through different markets to help them gain a breadth of management experience, and comes with the approval of the local Board of Directors.

Director and Huawei Global Board Director
Ms. Chen graduated from Northwest University. She joined Huawei in 1995, and has served successively as Chief Representative of the Beijing Representative Office, Vice President of the International Marketing Department, Deputy Director of the Domestic Marketing Management Office, President of the Public Affairs and Communications Department, and Corporate Senior Vice President. Ms Chen is a Director on Huawei’s global Board of Directors.

Director and Huawei Global Board Executive Director
Born in 1967, Mr. Li holds a Master's Degree from Xi'an Jiao Tong University. Mr. Li joined Huawei in 1992, and has served successively as Regional President, President of the Global Technical Service Department, President of the Human Resource Department, and President of the Joint Committee of Regions. Mr Li is an Executive Director on Huawei’s global Board of Directors.

President, South Pacific Region
Huawei Technologies
David is the President, South Pacific Region for Huawei Technologies. In this role, David oversees the representative offices in South Pacific including Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, the Philippines, Australia, New Zealand. He also serves as the regional corporate spokesperson for Huawei. David has over 20 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, and has worked in many diverse markets including China, Malaysia and Africa. David started his career in Huawei in 1996 as an engineer and moved on to take on various management roles including his previous role as the President of Western Africa Region. David holds a Master’s degree in Engineering from the University of Science and Technology in China.
