Banning Huawei Doesn’t Just Hurt Huawei – It Hurts America Too.

US-facts

By Joy Tan, Senior Vice President, Public Affairs, Huawei Technologies USA

Huawei is the leading global provider of ICT and smart devices, and we’re continuing to pave the way for the telecoms industry, particularly during this 5G technology era. As we emphasize and prioritize R&D, we can confidently say that Huawei has pulled ahead and is more than one year ahead of competitors in 5G development. Thus far, we’ve won 50 5G commercial contracts with more than 150,000 global base stations.

Since the very beginning, Huawei has been a pioneer of the technology industry, and we’ve been big proponents in investing in R&D in order to progress. In 2018 alone, we invested $15 billion, and that number will continue to grow in years to come. Because of our continuous investment in R&D, we now hold more than 85,000 global patents, and more than 11,000 of those are in the U.S – representing a true global impact. Separately, and as a result of our investment, Huawei has developed groundbreaking products and technologies, including the equipment that powers high-speed 5G communications.

Huawei is ensuring consumers have access to affordable and advanced technology, and the ongoing cybersecurity debate is only taking away from that.

Huawei is enabling a fully connected and intelligent world for everyone. When we look at underserved communities in America, local telecom carriers rely on Huawei to deliver safe connectivity to customers. It’s the underserved and rural communities who will feel the greatest impact of 5G deployment, whether that be through their smartphones, hospitals, schools, local businesses, or the development of smart cities. There is no positive outcome banning Huawei in the U.S. Not only would this limit the technological growth in these communities, but it will have a negative impact on employment, hurt local telecom providers and stunt innovative progress.

Huawei – like it always has – continues to operate independently from the Chinese government, and in doing so, our employees own 100 percent of the company. We’ve always prioritized our customers and will continue to do so no matter what happens. We’ve hired some of the most experienced cybersecurity professionals in the world to ensure Huawei is providing safe and secure equipment in support of resilient networks and are taking a comprehensive and transparent approach to defining 5G technologies and security standards.

Despite recent tensions, Huawei remains focused on revolutionizing the technology landscape and delivering safe and innovative technology to everyone.
