Australia - Sydney, 3 September 2009: Huawei, a global leader in the provision of next-generation telecoms network solutions, today announced that it has been chosen by VIVIDWIRELESS - a Seven Network Limited company - to supply network equipment for Australia's only WiMAX broadband network.

The WiMAX network will be rolled out to VIVIDWIRELESS customers in Perth in March next year. End-users will enjoy peak data speeds of more than 20Mbps from the new network. Huawei will supply 150 base stations (BTS) to VIVIDWIRELESS as part of the network equipment contract.

Commenting on the announcement, Huawei’s Australian CTO, Peter Rossi said: “As a leader in the market, driving industry standards, Huawei welcomes the opportunity to provide VIVIDWIRELESS with an open, flexible, WiMAX platform to deliver next generation services to their customer base.”

Huawei brings a wealth of experience to the partnership with VIVIDWIRELESS, having won over 44 contracts to deploy commercial WiMAX networks worldwide, including Europe, North America, Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Middle East and Africa, and ranks No.1 in terms of newly added WiMAX commercial contracts.

“Through continuous R&D investment, and providing guidance and support through its involvement in the WiMAX forum, Huawei is driving WiMAX deployments worldwide,” said Rossi.
