The Lost Stone becomes an all-optical hotel
In Yunnan province, The Lost Stone resort partnered with Huawei to build an environmentally friendly all-optical hotel.
The Lost Stone is located at the foot of Yunfeng Mountain in Tengchong near the Myanmar border. Home to a rich forest ecosystem, it’s shrouded in fog and clouds all year round, evoking a fairytale ambience. It enjoys a unique natural environment. Using the philosophy of “disappearing architecture”, world-renowned architect Kengo Kuma designed the hotel to blend in with its surroundings.
The hotel is a place to connect with nature and get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. At The Lost Stone, guests can enjoy the comfort of natural hot springs while experiencing the convenience of ultra-high-speed Internet. They can enjoy a modern experience in the middle of primeval forest – all made possible by ubiquitous green connections.
The Lost Stone incorporates the philosophy of saving energy and protecting the environment in its overall design. A network solution was required that could minimize impact on the natural environment and also handle smart hotel services. Knowing that Huawei’s Campus OptiX solution implements this exact outcome, the hotel chose the solution.
Simplifying network architecture to save energy and reduce emissions
Villas, guest rooms, leisure centers, clubs, and shopping areas are scattered throughout this 300,000 square-meter resort. Previous campus network solutions are unable to make hotels more environmentally friendly. But powered by passive optical network technology, Huawei Campus OptiX solution eliminates the need for many equipment rooms, as it reduces the wiring footprint and network-wide energy consumption. The Lost Stone adopted this solution to use one fiber network to convey over 10 services, including hotel data, audio, and video. In addition, the fiber network's long-range coverage cut out up to 80 percent of the equipment room space needed and minimized the impact on the environment.
