Inaugural WAIC CONNECT Malaysia 2026 to strengthen a sustainable and intelligent national AI ecosystem

KUALA LUMPUR, 7 SEPTEMBER 2026 - The World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC), China’s premier annual artificial intelligence (AI) event, is extending its reach to Malaysia with WAIC CONNECT Malaysia 2026. The inaugural conference will bring together government agencies, industry leaders, information and communications technology (ICT) companies and ecosystem partners from Malaysia, China and across ASEAN to accelerate practical AI adoption, strengthen cross-border collaboration and explore opportunities to create measurable value across key sectors.

Held under the theme "Innovating for a Green and Intelligent Malaysia", the debut edition of WAIC CONNECT Malaysia 2026 will take place at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on September 7 and 8, 2026.

Supported by Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Huawei Malaysia), the event is expected to convene 1,000 industry experts from across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region and feature an exhibition showcasing more than 40 solutions and innovations.

The exhibition will mark Malaysia’s debut of the Huawei Atlas 950 SuperPoD, Huawei’s most powerful AI computing infrastructure. Powered by Huawei’s UnifiedBus interconnect technology, it will also feature advanced AI infrastructure, alongside industry-focused AI solutions and leading foundation model partners, demonstrating how China’s AI innovation can be applied to real-world industry scenarios across Malaysia and ASEAN.

The first day of the conference will begin with the WAIC City Walk offsite exchange, where a 30-member delegation of C-suite executives from Chinese AI enterprises, Malaysian industry leaders and government representatives, will visit the Malaysian Research Accelerator for Technology & Innovation (MRANTI) Park and Huawei’s AI Lab and Innovation Centre to explore real-world AI applications and local AI initiatives.

In the afternoon, the Huawei Cloud AI Boost Day: Agentic AI Practice will bring together insights from Huawei Cloud, AI Malaysia Berhad and industry leaders, on Malaysia’s emerging agentic AI landscape. Discussions will cover the national agentic AI strategy, enterprise AI adoption, AI-powered software development and the role of digital identities in agentic systems. It will also feature sharing sessions from Zetrix AI, MiniMax, EvoMap and GlobeOSS.

The main forum on September 8, will examine the development of the AI industry, beginning with perspectives on Huawei’s full-stack computing power, as well as insights from GSMA on how AI is reshaping industries.

The forum will then turn to China’s growing AI presence, with a session on how Chinese AI companies are bringing their technologies and capabilities to international markets.

This will be followed by a Pioneer Dialogue Panel exploring lessons Malaysia can draw from China’s AI journey, including the policies and approaches that supported the growth of its AI industry, how Chinese AI companies have expanded globally and what local players can learn as Malaysia develops its own AI ecosystem.

Panellists will include representatives from Mianbi Intelligence, Yufan Intelligence, Huizheng Finance and the Malaysia-China Friendship Association.

The main forum will wrap up with a closing keynote by the Minister of Communications Dato’ Seri Fahmi Fadzil and closing remarks by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Malaysia, Ouyang Yujing.

Beyond knowledge sharing, the conference aims to turn conversations into commercial outcomes through the WAIC CONNECT Innovation Industry Matchmaking session, which pairs local industry needs with relevant technologies and implementation partners.

Highlights of the session will include presentations on AI requirements across three key areas: smart city planning in the AI era for government; smart campus development for education; and development needs for the financial services industry in the AI era.

These will be followed by short pitches by global AI companies, including AllCam Technology, Digital Hail, Epoint Software, Farben Information, iFLYTEK and Runda Health on potential solutions to address identified needs. A dedicated industry-matching session will then connect relevant solutions, technology providers and implementation partners.

WAIC CONNECT Malaysia 2026 aims to establish an AI ecosystem platform rooted in Malaysia while strengthening the country’s role as a link between international innovation and ASEAN’s demand for practical, responsible and industry-ready solutions.

Expected participants include representatives from the Ministry of Communications, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Huawei APAC, Huawei Malaysia and other government, industry and ecosystem organisations.
