Camaroe, Sustainno and Huawei Malaysia partner to drive sustainable prawn farming with smart energy and renewable technologies

KUALA LUMPUR, 21 AUGUST 2026 – Camaroe Berhad, Sustainno Sdn Bhd and Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Huawei Malaysia) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy and smart energy management technologies across Camaroe’s prawn aquaculture facilities in Malaysia.

The collaboration supports Camaroe’s Sustainable Aquaculture Green Transformation Roadmap by integrating Huawei’s Commercial and Industrial (C&I) Smart Photovoltaic (SPV) and Energy Storage System (ESS) technologies into its prawn aquaculture operations to improve energy efficiency, reduce reliance on non-renewable energy sources, minimise energy waste and optimise operational costs.

As the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning (EPCC) partner, Sustainno will oversee site assessments, feasibility studies, system design, equipment procurement and delivery, deployment, performance validation, operational training and post-installation technical support.

Huawei Malaysia will be the technology backbone for the initiative through its Huawei Digital Power solutions, as well as providing its technical expertise and marketing consultancy services.

He added that Sustainno’s focus is not on the price of equipment but on the cost of every kilowatt-hour over the life of the system and that the company is investing in its own solar tracking technology to bring that cost down further.

“Aquaculture operates under operationally intensive and demanding conditions. In an industry defined by thin margins and biological variability, energy is one of the few significant operating costs that farms can actively optimise. With Huawei Digital Power's Next Gen-Microgrid solution, we will support Camaroe in gaining greater visibility and control over its energy consumption, enabling smarter energy management, improved operational efficiency and sustainable long-term growth,” said Huawei Malaysia’s Executive Vice President of Digital Power Business, Chong Chern Peng.

The MoU was signed at Huawei Malaysia’s AI Lab and Innovation Centre at The Exchange 106 in TRX, the first Huawei facility of its kind established outside China and a regional centre serving the Asia-Pacific region. Signing on behalf of their respective organisations were Teoh Han Boon, Managing Director of Camaroe, Lau Tzeh Wei, Founder and Technical Director of Sustainno and Huawei Malaysia’s Executive Vice President of Digital Power Business, Chong Chern Peng. The ceremony was witnessed by Low Saw Cheng, Executive Director of Camaroe; Vince Chua, Business Development Director of Sustainno and Damon Leong, Huawei Malaysia’s Director of Digital Power, Marketing and Solution Sales Department.

Huawei is committed to integrating digital and power electronics technologies, developing clean power and enabling energy digitalisation to drive the energy revolution for a better, greener future. This collaboration marks the company’s first foray into the agriculture sphere in Malaysia, further solidifying the role of green energy as a primary power source, in line with the nation’s carbon neutrality goals.
