Huawei Releases Indoor Coverage Digitalization Business Solution, Enabling Indoor Digital Economy

[Hong Kong, China, September 19, 2017] At Operations Transformation Forum 2017 (OTF2017),Huawei released the Indoor Coverage Digitalization Business Solution, combined with the latest successful case to explain how Huawei can help operators achieve business success.

According to the latest insights by GSMA Mobile Economy, mobile data traffic is expected to increase at an annual compound rate of 49%, and more than 70% of the skyrocketing data traffic will take place indoors. In the meanwhile, indoor services are diversifying and new services such as online streaming, online games, and AR/VR applications, are mushrooming. This trend places higher requirements on indoor networks.

But operators have been long struggling with challenges in indoor network construction. Difficult site access which result in indoor sites cannot be constructed at the planned locations. Indoor site projects typically have a long return on investment (ROI) period. Business revenue is stuck in a stagnant increase as a result of uniform services over indoor networks.

Mr. Zheng Ruguo, Chief Marketing Officer of Huawei's Global Technical Services, specially explained how this solution can successfully resolve the issue of long ROI periods. With creative solutions, such as indoor and outdoor traffic differentiation, value hotspot identification, ROI analysis, and indoor network solution match, this solution helps operators with precise identification of value hotspots to realize accurate investment. This solution has been successfully deployed in Australia, China, and Mexico. The hotspot identification accuracy reached 85%, and the ROI period was expected to reduce to 3.5 years on average.

Mr. Zheng also introduced a bright spot of this solution: Huawei's latest Indoor Easy Pole Solution. With this solution, an indoor site shares the appearance of a charging pile, perfectly blending in well with surrounding environments. The site can also serve as a billboard and provide phone charging services. This makes it a win-win solution. While indoor network experience improves, the building owner has advertisement revenues and the public have access to free phone charging services. In a Panama project for Cable and Wireless Panama (CMP), site access costs were decreased to zero, and easy installation, simple O&M, and fast deployment were realized, contributing to significant TCO savings.

"Huawei's Indoor Coverage Digitalization Business Solution is provided to help operators achieve indoor network revenue growth. While ensuring superb mobile broadband services, this solution enables digital value-added services through network capability openness, such as smart shopping malls, smart airports, and smart stadiums. Such services provide a new source of revenues and a new way to maximize indoor network value." Said Mr. Zheng. "In Wuxi Coastal City, with this solution, China Mobile provides customers with smart shopping services, such as shopping navigation, smart parking, and precise promotions. It also provides big data-based business services like customer flow analysis, user profiling, and business insights to the mall managing side. For China Mobile, free site access was realized and B2B revenues can be produced, helping reduce the ROI period to 3 years. With significantly improved shopping experience, the customer flow there increased by 40% in half of a year. Therefore, all the parties are benefited from this deployment."

Huawei has developed broad capabilities and gained extensive experience in business and network consulting, digital solutions, end-to-end integration, and industry ecosystems to support and facilitate the digital process of indoor network coverage. In the next five years, Huawei will continue to step up R&D investment in indoor coverage digitalization business solutions, expand cooperation with operators and industry partners on business model explorations and joint technical innovations, and make concerted efforts to open up a new era of indoor digital economy.

Operations Transformation Forum 2017 (OTF2017) is held at the Hong Kong from September 18-19. The theme is Transforming Towards Digital Business. Huawei works closely with partners from across the entire industry to focus on operators’ operations transformation and business growth.
