5G-Oriented Core Network Transformation Roundtable

  • Consensus:
  •   • Different services have a diverse set of requirements. Distributed Cloud deployment, Network slicing are some of the mechanisms to address the needs of different applications. The next 2-3 years will introduce 5G into the market to develop into Mass market service after 2020.
  •   • Mobile Internet, IoT, Vertical Industry, Smart City will be great opportunities for operators in the near future. Migrating to All Cloud architecture presents some challenges, such as ensuring carrier grade reliability, interoperability and service migration to cloud, changes within the network organization.
  •   • Several steps to transform to 5G: NFV deployment, CUPS architecture, 5G option 3 to support augmented RAN capacity, 5G option 7 standalone, distributed deployment for low latency. Distributed deployment shall be done based on the use case needs. 5G Network slicing enables new market opportunities.
  •   • 5G Core vision includes being User Centric, Application Driven and Autonomous. It will support multiple access technologies, including Fixed access. 5G Core will support micro services architecture to increase agility in product release upgrades; CUPS for user experience enhancements; network slicing to open up to verticals. Evolution to 5G Core will take place in steps, starting with distributing user plane and deploying NSA first.
