Darryl West

Darryl West is HSBC’s Group Chief Information Officer who heads the bank’s Information Technology (IT) function.

Banking is increasingly led by technology and for HSBC that means transforming IT into a simpler, stronger, more flexible function with a faster-moving commercial awareness so it is more closely aligned the bank’s global businesses and functions.

Darryl is leading this transformation which also includes the merger of the two IT areas, IT Operations and Software Delivery, into a single group-wide IT organisation of around 35,000 people.

Darryl, who is based in London, reports directly to Group Chief Operating Officer Andy Maguire and he is a member of the Group Chief Operating Officers’ Executive Committee.

Darryl has more than 30 years’ experience in financial services in Australia, France, Germany, the US and the UK.

He joined HSBC in February 2015 from Barclays plc where he was Group Chief Information Officer and Deputy Chief Operations and Technology Officer from November 2013.

Prior to Barclays Darryl was CIO of Lloyds Banking Group, playing a leading role in the integration of Lloyds TSB and Halifax Bank of Scotland as well as the transformation of its IT organisation. In recognition of this work, he received a 2013 NASSCOM Global Leadership Award for Business Transformation using IT.

He has also worked at JP Morgan Chase, Accenture and the National Australia Group Europe.

Darryl graduated first in his class at Deakin University in Australia and has a bachelor of commerce with majors in Accountancy and Computer Science. He is a Fellow of Australia’s Institute of Chartered Accountants.
