Huawei and WomenTechIceland Co-hosted the Women Innovators Incubator Competition

The Women Innovators Incubator was the culmination of a year-long partnership between Huawei and WomenTechIceland, a non-profit organization that advocates for the rights of women in the Icelandic tech sector, focusing on diversity, inclusion and intersectionality.

The partnership gave way to many fruitful panel discussions, upskilling workshops, and a survey released in three languages, that helped the team understand the difficulties that women face joining accelerator programs. The month-long incubator hosted 17 teams which were presented a diverse program, including, group workshops, one-to-one mentoring sessions and investor meetings. All project activities were possible due to the enthusiastic and supportive participation of the business community in Iceland.

At Pitch Night, all but 3 teams presented their ideas, which were judged by a panel of judges comprised of Huawei executives, venture capital representatives, NGO representatives, and business leaders in the innovation sector. The winning idea, as selected by judges was Lilja app, an ambitious application that aims to prevent domestic and sexual violence.
