Security Advisory - Arbitrary Memory Write Vulnerability in Some Huawei Smart Phones

  • SA No:huawei-sa-20170816-02-smartphone
  • Initial Release Date: Aug 16, 2017
  • Last Release Date: Dec 01, 2017

The boot loaders of some Huawei mobile phones have a arbitrary memory write vulnerability  due to the lack of parameter validation. An attacker with the root privilege of an Android system may trick a user into installing a malicious APP. The APP can modify specific data to cause arbitrary memory writing in the next system reboot, causing continuous system reboot or arbitrary code execution. (Vulnerability ID: HWPSIRT-2017-01069)
This vulnerability has been assigned a CVE ID: CVE-2017-8150.
Huawei has released software updates to fix this vulnerability. This advisory is available at the following link:
