Telco Rainmakers Exploit the Cloud

Talking about how well cloud computing technologies will benefit on the business efficiency, Sheryl Kingstone, Director of Yankee Group, deems cloud computing a great opportunity for operators to really invigorate where they are trying to go, lower their operating costs, and increase revenue. Operators have already done a great job at data center storage and data center collaboration, but the future of the cloud is sure to stem from solutions yet to come.

According to Dana Cooperson, VP of Network Infrastructure at Ovum, operators must expand their business scope to improve their revenue over the next 5 to 7 years. Cloud is definitely one area where operators are looking to expand.

Operators can consolidate old data centers and build new ones, but the infrastructure has to be flexible, efficient, and most importantly, interconnected rather than isolated. They need to expand and connect all data centers together.

When it comes to new revenues, Kingstone thinks operators should leverage their core strengths, such as their infrastructure, mobility, communication services, security and scalability, by aligning all these with cloud solutions. Instead of being a dump pipe, they can transform towards being a smart pipe, and deliver new solutions to marketplace through new verticals.

For Cooperson, operators need to bring all the pieces together through more integrated services related to both communications and IT, with the latter being the hard place for operators.
