Joint Innovation with China Telecom

In December 2011, the annual JIC meeting between China Telecom (Guangdong Research Institute) and Huawei was held. Experts and management from both parties reviewed the progress and achievements for the past year and defined targets for 2012. In 2011, the JIC had focused on 6SEA architecture and IPv6 transition technologies. Through in-depth research into China Telecom’s network, the JIC made significant progress in adapting the operator’s network for IPv6, with relevant solutions tested on live networks in both Wuxi and Changsha cities, as well as Sichuan province. In November 2011, the JIC received first prize at the Guangdong Province science & technology awards in the field of key ultra-broadband metro network technology and application R&D.

In 2012, the JIC plans to focus on the new challenges raised by ultra-broadband architecture; with other topics including next-gen Internet and transition technologies. The JIC is expected to deliver practical and innovative solutions to help operators solve their challenges in network innovation and development.

Huawei has rich experience in ultra-broadband metro networking and next-gen Internet, which should greatly aid China Telecom’s strategic moves into fiber broadband and next-gen Internet. The JIC will continue to play a key role in promoting both parties’ R&D efforts and overall cooperation, moving the frontier for Chinese networking that much farther forward.
