Huawei Helps Turkey with 4.5G for Becoming the ICT Lead of Region
[Istanbul, Turkey, May 12, 2016] Huawei organized the 4.5G Industry Summit held in Istanbul on May 10, 2016, supported by the Ministry of Maritime, Transport and Communications, Information and Communication Technologies Authority (ICTA) of Turkey and Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA).

Booming 4.5G
The theme of this summit is "Booming 4.5G, Pioneering ICT Hub". Over 300 people attended this summit, gathering interest and expertise from government organizations, industry associations, telecom operators, equipment providers, Internet enterprises, vertical industry players, and other industry chain parties. This unique opportunity created the platform and premise for in-depth discussions based on 4.5G evolution, industry development, and service applications.
By April 1 of this year, 4.5G networks are commercially deployed in over 80 cities throughout Turkey and have secured a position as the world's largest commercial 4.5G network. 4.5G networks in Turkey are constructed based on the 4T4R technology and incorporate the use of a new active antenna unit (AAU) with peak data transfer rates exceeding 1Gbps to simultaneously provide VoLTE, high definition (HD) video, and Internet of Things (IoT) services.
"The rapid development of the telecom industry and software industry has enhanced ICT competitiveness and stimulated industrial transformation and upgrades to continuously change people's lifestyle and communication modes." Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan, Chairman of Turkey's ICTA emphasized that Huawei solutions and products as well as support of R&D and technical support personnel over the past 40 days in Turkey have been immense. This specifically accounts for the increased number of 4.5G subscribers which rose by over 10 million. He was grateful for Huawei's considerable contribution to Turkey's ICT industry: "4.5G reaching area is developing rapidly. Today 9.6 million citizens are using 4.5G via 10.000 base stations actively. This is a success story hat using 9.6 million people 4.5G in 40 days. We are planning 4.5G’s future with telco operators and producer companies. The locomotive of this industry will be broadband internet technologies. This summit is also important in terms of developing the occasions of 5G at future. We are also happy for Huawei’s position and valuing Turkey as center of Central Asia and Caucasia. "
“4.5G networking is a cutting-edge tool which can connect both people and devices, applicable to government administration, business operation, and vertical industries. Faced with the digital transformation of the entire communications industry, telecom operators, equipment providers, application software vendors, and system integrators must closely collaborate to boost the 4.5G industry and build a regional ICT hub”, Liu Hongyun, President of Central Asia and Cauciasia Region, highlighted in his opening speech at the summit.
Pioneering ICT Hub
Galip Zerey, Deputy Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Maritime and Communication in Turkey stated that, "4.5G Industry Summit provides us with an opportunity of exchange within the communications and IT industry. It will become an event that spans over multiple industries, develops cross-industry cooperation, and promotes the maturity of industry chains. We believe that this summit will play a significant role in the 4.5G development in Turkey, Central Asia, or even the world with the extensive participation and support of Turkey's information industry, IT industry, and all relevant parties”. He believed that this 4.5G Industry Summit will definitely lead to the rapid expansion of the 4.5G industry in Turkey and the rest of the world, and develop Turkey into an industry-leading regional ICT hub. "Huawei has signed a great organization in terms of development of 4.5G. Turkey is a very big country with its 78 million young populations. These populations want to use technology, want to be closer with technology. So there should be more investigations on technology and we except this from multinational companies. Also we expect them to support local employment and local production. Huawei has good profile on these cases. I am following Huawei since 2004 and they support the whole industry in and around Turkey with their R&D center with Turkish engineers. I advise the companies working on local production to make more contribution with Huawei and also we expect Huawei to make more contribution for developing new technologies in Turkey. In my opinion these meetings are very effective to make future planning. Thanks to everyone contributed on this meeting. ”
Representatives from three top mobile operators in Turkey, namely Turkcell, Vodafone, and Turk Telecom, delivered enlightening speeches. Meanwhile, Alan Hadden, Vice Chairman of GSA, and Dimitris Mavrakis, Chief Analyst of OVUM, delivered keynote speeches on 4.5G network deployment vision including numerous success stories. Representatives from Qualcomm and Intel were keen to share insights into 4.5G chip and product roadmap. Representatives from Saran Online (the largest local video provider in Turkey), video game vendor Oyunder, as well as Yapikredi Bank (representative of mobile payment) shared experience in providing a unique perspective towards improved user experience, the creation of industry applications, and tips on how to increase business revenues in this new exciting era of 4.5G.
Yang Chaobin, CMO of Huawei Wireless Product Line, delivered a keynote speech on CloudRAN MBB2020 architecture. He highlighted that 4.5G supports LTE-Advanced Pro defined in 3GPP standards and provides a much improved internet experience for subscribers, while allowing mobile operators to expand into markets, which include requirements from individuals to household, and vertical industries. 4.5G uses WTTx to tackle the requirements from the household market and meet increasing demands for mobile broadband services. In addition, thanks to 4.5G networks, narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) technology enables over 100,000 connections per cell to support IoT applications required by users from all walks of life.
Before the advent of 5G, network architecture evolution paves the way for the new air interface. Yang Chaobin stated that Huawei is proactively seeking to construct a flexible CloudRAN architecture complete with systematic cloud capabilities such as function virtualization, cloud resources virtualization, and flexible coordination. 4.5G networks will gradually employ the CloudRAN architecture to lay a solid basis and fundamental foundation for future 5G networks.
