The 47th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum was held from January 17 to January 20, 2017 in Davos, Switzerland. The theme of the meeting was "Responsive and Responsible Leadership". With the aim of promoting more inclusive and equal economic growth, world leaders were called upon to reexamine the existing international system that supports global cooperation, and to construct a new one suited to a more complex and multipolar world. On January 18, sponsored by the World Economic Forum's International Business Council, Huawei Chairwoman Ms. Sun Yafang and executives from over 100 leading global enterprises in attendance signed The Compact for Responsive and Responsible Leadership, committed to long-term sustainable global investment and growth.
The Compact emphasizes that corporate objectives must be aligned with the long-term goals of society. Enterprises should not sacrifice long-term economic prosperity and the welfare of society for the sake of short-term financial gains. Enterprise executives and their major investors must reshape their relationship, and view corporate governance as a means of collaboration between the enterprise and its stakeholders to jointly create long-term value and oppose short-sighted actions. Enterprises and their stakeholders must resolve disagreements through transparent and mutually respectful means, and jointly promote long-term sustainable global investment and growth.
Attending enterprise representatives all agreed that the Compact is of great significance. Short-term thinking has become widespread amongst enterprise investors and executives, especially with the increase in global uncertainties and ongoing downward economic trends in the past few years. However, if company leaders can provide responsive and responsible leadership, this will contribute significantly to the improvement of society. There is a growing understanding amongst visionary leaders about the importance of signing a Compact to reaffirm the commitment to long-term sustainable development and to establish a corporate governance framework that ensures the long-term sustainable development of both enterprises and society. This has become a top priority for many global enterprises.
Built on its own business strategy, Huawei exchanges views widely with internal and external stakeholders, and has established a sustainable development strategy. There is a common spirit behind this sustainable development strategy and the company's strategy as a whole. The strategy reflects Huawei's commitment to promoting the long-term, robust, and harmonious development of the economy, environment, and society.
Huawei is committed to a company strategy aimed at long-term and sustainable value creation, and is dedicated to regular review of the company's governance, long-term goals, and development strategy. Huawei will support the execution of this Compact, pursue long-term strategy, and contribute its part to global sustainable development.
