China Unicom Tianjin and Huawei Sign MoU on GigaUplink to Set New Benchmarks for AI × GigaUplink Networks

[Tianjin, China, February 2, 2026] Recently, China Unicom Tianjin and Huawei signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) committing both companies to enhance Tianjin's wireless network services and strengthen its digital economy. Entitled, “China Unicom Tianjin: Inspiring the Future with AI,” the launch event, was attended by representatives of the Tianjin Communications Administration and China Unicom.

Under the MoU, China Unicom Tianjin and Huawei agreed to optimize uplink performance, establish and promote benchmark sites, implement AI applications, and foster ecosystems for both subscribers and enterprises.

A new report, the China Unicom Mobile AI Network Application White Paper, was also released at the event. The report explains how AI technology is developing from a "technical tool" to the "core DNA" of mobile networks. It also includes a deep analysis of the differentiated network requirements of AI services and explores uplink enhancement technologies that can address these requirements. Together, this information can provide guidance on future network construction.

Tian Yuanbing, Deputy General Manager of China Unicom's Construction and Development Department, said, "AI is sweeping across industries, giving rise to new services such as HD live streaming, AI agents, and embodied AI. These services are placing higher demands on network capabilities, particularly in the uplink. In this context, China Unicom is establishing GigaUplink showcases to bring this technology to industries to drive their intelligent transformation. Our bigger vision is to fuel the digital economy."

Xian Geng, China Unicom Tianjin's Deputy General Manager, also spoke about the company's achievements in network innovation: "From full RedCap coverage to continuous 5G-A coverage in urban areas, China Unicom Tianjin has always been dedicated to user-centric innovation. Our 5G-A GigaUplink showcase in Beichen Park—the first of its kind in China—delivers a single-user uplink peak speed above 1 Gbps, enhancing both industry operations and daily life in Tianjin. This demonstrates the practical value of GigaUplink."

He Yunru, President of Huawei's SingleRAN Product Line, said, "We will continue collaborating with China Unicom Tianjin to leverage a full series of GigaUplink solutions and other innovations such as intelligent link management, spectrum aggregation, and cell coordination. This will help optimize wireless network coverage and capacity, enabling China Unicom Tianjin to build a leading AI × GigaUplink network. We will also work on technology collaboration to promote the large-scale adoption of GigaUplink and foster a new industry ecosystem."

At the event, a showcase area was set up for media outlets to experience AI × GigaUplink applications firsthand. The display featured devices such as AI agents, AI glasses, and robotic dogs to show how GigaUplink adds convenience to both daily life and work. Looking ahead, China Unicom Tianjin and Huawei will continue driving network upgrades, enabling AI and GigaUplink mobile networks to serve industries and the public.
