A smarter stage for global dialogue
Located just two kilometers from Beijing Capital International Airport, the Capital International Exhibition & Convention Center (CIECC) was designed as a new gateway for global exchange. With a total floor area of approximately 611,000 square meters, it is the largest single-building exhibition venue in Beijing, integrating exhibitions, conferences, and hotels within one connected complex.
Created to support Beijing’s role as a center for international exchange, the CIECC was conceived to meet world-class standards. But scale brings complexity. Hosting mega-exhibitions with more than 100,000 visitors requires precise coordination of security, traffic, logistics, energy systems, and digital services, all while delivering a seamless visitor experience.

To meet that challenge, the CIECC partnered with Huawei to build an intelligent, green, and fully digital exhibition environment.
A venue that thinks in real time
At the core of the transformation is the Huawei Campus Digital Platform, which serves as the venue’s digital brain. It integrates more than 10 intelligent subsystems including security, access control, facility management, traffic systems, and energy management — into a unified architecture.
Through an Intelligent Operations Center (IOC), operators gain a real-time overview of on-site conditions during exhibitions. Risks can be identified and addressed immediately, ensuring that events are safe and secure. Trucks and other vehicles entering the venue are scheduled dynamically, improving the efficiency of exhibition setup and dismantling.
The IoT-based facility management system links more than 37,000 connected devices across the complex. Centralized control and rapid fault handling have improved troubleshooting efficiency by 30 percent. Predictive maintenance further reduces system downtime, and overall operations efficiency has risen by 40 percent.
Security has also become more intelligent. AI-powered video analysis enables real-time detection of anomalies such as unauthorized intrusion. Patrol robots support site inspection and emergency response. Together, these systems reduce security workloads by 40 percent while strengthening risk prevention.
From arrival to departure
The transformation extends beyond operations to include the entire visitor experience.
Through a mobile mini-program, people can access exhibition information before they even arrive. Inside the venue, Augmented Reality navigation helps them find booths and meeting rooms. Food and beverage services can be booked online to avoid peak congestion, and a mobile tool helps people find their parked cars.
Underpinning this experience is a 10 Gbps network that brings fiber directly to exhibition booths. A simplified architecture distributes high-speed fiber to multiple end-points, reducing the need for switching equipment on every floor. This delivers stable, high-bandwidth connectivity capable of supporting events with more than 100,000 participants.
At the same time, the fiber-based design uses fewer powered switches and consumes less energy than traditional copper networks. Combined with data-driven energy management across equipment and facilities, CIECC has achieved a 30 percent reduction in overall energy consumption.
Exhibition-city integration
Beyond the venue itself, CIECC integrates surrounding traffic data to help manage pedestrian and vehicle flows during major events. By connecting exhibitions with nearby business, hospitality, and city services, the venue is also helping build a broader ecosystem for Beijing’s meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) industry.
With unified data visibility and predictive operations management, CIECC offers a new model for how large-scale exhibition venues can operate. The project not only improves day-to-day efficiency, but also strengthens Beijing’s position as a global exhibition destination.
