Academia’s not ready for AI, says this expert

(August 2024) You’d think that the world of higher learning would be all set to use artificial intelligence.

Not quite, says Angelos Stefanidis, Dean of the School of AI and Advanced Computing at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University. 

In a new Transform Talks interview, Prof. Stefanidis says AI is changing so fast that there’s little time to reflect on the best ways to use it.  

“We are focusing more on preparing our graduates for work,” he tells Huawei Editor-in-Chief Gavin Allen. “That basically means we have to listen to employers and understand their needs.

“Unfortunately, often the innovation is so fast that even the employers themselves don't know what they're going to need in six months.”
