In 2014, Huawei and the Communication Authority of Kenya, a department under the Ministry of Information and Communications, signed a MoU, where Huawei would act as an ICT architect of the Kenyan government. Huawei Kenya will continue to advise on Kenya's ICT Master Plan and Vision 2030. Huawei has participated in Kenya's Presidential Digital Talent Project (PDTP) as a career advisor and sponsor, and the Huawei Eastern Africa Training Center has developed dozens of students each year. Huawei has also joined the ICT Caucus Meeting as a think tank and consultant, to advise on Kenya's national ICT plan.
As part of its global flagship CSR program Seeds for the Future, Huawei works together with the Communication Authority each year, to select outstanding students from Kenya's top 20 universities to participate in the program. This program has drawn wide attention from local university students for three consecutive years. As of 2016, over 7,000 students majoring in ICT have signed up for the program, competing for the ten places to receive training in China every year. These initiatives have helped build a larger ICT workforce in Kenya, advance Huawei's localization strategy, and project Huawei Kenya's image as a responsible corporate citizen in the local community.
