The tourism industry has an undeniable impact on the environment, which has increasingly attracted the attention of the international community and the public. In light of the major environmental issues we’re facing and the call for global sustainable development, the hotel industry is facing greater pressure to protect the environment than ever before.
Many sectors have adopted environmentally friendly practices and a commitment to a low-carbon footprint by, for example, minimizing resource consumption and pollution – goals that have also become priorities for the hospitality industry.
With the popularization of technologies such as 5G, cloud, and AI, the hotel industry is gradually upgrading its software and hardware to build new core competencies. New services, such as high-speed networks and smart hotel rooms, require more from networks, yet previous network solutions are often burdened by complex architecture and high energy consumption.
If previous network solutions no longer suit the industry's business and environmental protection needs, what is the right solution?
The answer is Huawei Campus OptiX solution for hotels. It builds green networks with a service life of up to 30 years with a simplified network architecture and lower energy consumption.
In Yunnan province, The Lost Stone resort partnered with Huawei to build an environmentally friendly all-optical hotel.
The Lost Stone is located at the foot of Yunfeng Mountain in Tengchong near the Myanmar border. Home to a rich forest ecosystem, it’s shrouded in fog and clouds all year round, evoking a fairytale ambience. It enjoys a unique natural environment. Using the philosophy of “disappearing architecture”, world-renowned architect Kengo Kuma designed the hotel to blend in with its surroundings.
The hotel is a place to connect with nature and get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. At The Lost Stone, guests can enjoy the comfort of natural hot springs while experiencing the convenience of ultra-high-speed Internet. They can enjoy a modern experience in the middle of primeval forest – all made possible by ubiquitous green connections.
The Lost Stone incorporates the philosophy of saving energy and protecting the environment in its overall design. A network solution was required that could minimize impact on the natural environment and also handle smart hotel services. Knowing that Huawei’s Campus OptiX solution implements this exact outcome, the hotel chose the solution.
Villas, guest rooms, leisure centers, clubs, and shopping areas are scattered throughout this 300,000 square-meter resort. Previous campus network solutions are unable to make hotels more environmentally friendly. But powered by passive optical network technology, Huawei Campus OptiX solution eliminates the need for many equipment rooms, as it reduces the wiring footprint and network-wide energy consumption. The Lost Stone adopted this solution to use one fiber network to convey over 10 services, including hotel data, audio, and video. In addition, the fiber network's long-range coverage cut out up to 80 percent of the equipment room space needed and minimized the impact on the environment.

Huawei Campus OptiX has helped the hotel simplify its overall network architecture and reduce fiber attenuation. Using passive components has greatly reduced the impact on the environment.
The harmony between telecommunications technologies and nature is driven by innovation and is reshaping the hotel industry for more environmentally friendly growth.
It is our shared goal to create a sustainable future for humanity and to make our earth greener. Huawei is committed to exploring technological innovation to balance technology and nature. Going forward, Huawei will continue to find new industry partners to reduce carbon footprints for a greener planet.
