Global telecommunications leader deepens long-term commitment to the U.S. market; sharpens its customer-centric innovation focus to accelerate technology breakthroughs
[SANTA CLARA, Calif. – 5 April 2011] Today Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, marked its tenth anniversary in the United States. In recognition of this corporate milestone, the company is hosting a formal celebration at Huawei's new research and development (R&D) headquarters in Santa Clara, Calif. The 200,000 square-foot facility includes multiple state-of-the-art research labs and focuses on the research and development of next generation communications solutions for U.S. customers while supporting Huawei's global R&D research efforts.

"With the opening of our Santa Clara R&D facility, we will continue to focus on groundbreaking research that addresses customer needs and creates new growth opportunities for the company."
In 2001, as part of the globalization plan, Huawei established its U.S. operations in Plano, Texas. Huawei USA has grown from its initial setup to an operations of 1,100 employees in 12 branch offices and 7 R&D centers. Huawei has been a local economy contributor and in 2010, procured
$6.1 billion from U.S.-based companies and invested $103 million locally in research and development.

"Since establishing offices in the heart of Silicon Valley in 2002, Huawei has been a job creator and active participant in the community, and this new facility represents the continued investment and commitment to cultivating local talent and contributing to the economy in this critical region."
As part of today's tenth anniversary celebration and the opening of its newest R&D center, Huawei is also announcing its engagement with America's Promise Alliance, a leading organization focused on community and nonpartisan advocacy. Through this engagement, Huawei will donate $100,000 to ten charities across the U.S. for educational programs to better prepare children for school, work and life.
