By adopting the Digital Shopping Mall, a unified service platform that aggregates mobile Internet applications, operators can deliver a better cloud-based service experience to end users, and ultimately generate more revenue.

Overview

As the boundaries between the telecom and IT industries become blurred, operators are seeking new ways such as application stores to consolidate their position in the value chain.

Huawei Digital Shopping Mall (DSM) is a hosted service delivery platform with a pre-stocked library of mobile internet content and applications. It is fairly simple to integrate through a single gateway access between Huawei hosting center and operators’ network. It is targeted to produce an open, simple, mature, fast, integrated and cost-effective application store platform that delivers massive amounts of applications and services quickly.

Our Solution

Huawei DSM provides cloud services to enrich consumers’ daily lives:

  • Hosting mode is the preferred delivery mode of DSM. The operator only needs to integrate its network with Huawei DSM via a local access gateway instead of deploying the whole platform;
  • There are lots of pre-selected, integrated applications, media content and services in the DSM including mobile music, mobile reading, social networking sites, rich communication suites, mobile games etc. So operators can reach the market and generate revenue faster;
  • Easy for end users to select, order and use the services. The phone number is treated as the user’s account and the pass for using all services in the DSM. If the user wants a service, a credit card is not a mandatory anymore, he can pay it directly through his account in the operator’s billing system;
  • Through data analysis based on his behavior and interests, the system recommends relevant services to a subscriber. Also, using the recommendation engine, operators can easily cross-sell and promote more services to the consumer, e.g., recommend Madonna’s new song and music video once he views news about Madonna;
  • Operators have to deal with different types of terminals, from smart phones to feature phones. DSM can adapt to different terminals to provide a unified service experience for end users.

Applications & Benefits

Huawei DSM can bring the following business value to operators:

  • Reduces initial investment and business risk: Hosting mode enables operators to change from “buy service” to “rent service”. Operators only need to select and use services in the hosting center, saving them a long service planning process;
  • Increases the user loyalty and stickiness: DSM provides comprehensive functionalities such as address book management, online chat, posting messages on SNS site, etc., which encourages the subscribers to use it more often. DSM can almost fulfill all normal requirements of the end user’s daily life, like content services and social networking services. As time goes by, DSM will then become a part of end users’ mobile life. It is easy to change a service but hard to change a lifestyle, and so people will stay with DSM;
  • Aggregates massive applications, content and services from the global and regional partner: Huawei’s InTouch Partnership Program aims to aggregate excellent applications, media content and services from global CP/SPs and then ships them to Huawei’s Digital Shopping Mall. Huawei has 300+ global and regional partners, providing services from music to video clips and games etc. These partners include Mobile Weaver, EMI, ESPN, Sony, Universal, AFP and so on.
