Optimus Launched the First Full-Performance HSDPA Network in Portugal

Optimus is a mobile operator under Sonaecom, the leading telecom group in Portugal. It is renowned for the high mobile network quality, and has won the "Best Network Operator" prize from the GSM Association for 3 consecutive years.

Milestones

In December 2006, Huawei delivered nearly 1,000 HSDPA Node Bs.

In December 2006, Optimus and Huawei signed the HSPA commercial network Phase 2 contract, according to which the HSPA network to be constructed by Huawei would cover 70% of Portugal's territory including Porto, the largest city of Portugal.

In June 2006, Huawei finished constructing the Phase 1 of the Optimus HSPA network fast and with quality.

In February 2006, Optimus chose Huawei to construct its HSDPA network covering Lisbon, Portugal.

Full-performance HSDPA network improves user experience

Optimus has adopted Huawei's leading full performance HSDPA solution, which supports up to 14.4 Mbps service rate, and offers a great variety of 3G service options, including high-speed download, mobile TV, MTV and movie clip download, interactive multiplayer 3D games, and large-capacity mailing. This solution enables concurrent high-speed access of multiple users, and brings exciting 3G experience to users. In May 2005, Optimus selected Huawei to deploy a full performance HSDPA network at Madeira where terrains are complicated. Optimus was deeply impressed by Huawei's quality products and solutions.

Excellent project delivery and network planning

In February 2006, Optimus chose Huawei to construct its HSDPA network covering Lisbon, Portugal. Huawei quickly fulfilled the project from network swapping to installation, guaranteeing the coverage quality. In a comparison of the indicators before and after the network adjustment, network quality and
coverage improved greatly, with call drop rate down 3%, and call success rate up 4%; the values of the network KPIs of "network coverage", "user access", "network support", "integrated service", "flexibility" and "delay" outweighed the existing network.

Win-win strategy through close cooperation

At present, Optimus has improved the Huawei HSPDA USB Modem, E220, which supports data rates of 3.6 Mbps, and launched the user service brand "Kanguru" and development program, following a large-scale number issue in Portugal and a rapid growth in contractual users. To implement the further 3G user development program and meet the great demand for indoor high-speed data services, Optimus applied Huawei's iDBS indoor coverage solution in January 2007 to a pre-commercial test oriented to indoor in-depth coverage. The iDBS solution adopts the latest technologies, such as All-IP networking, and provides HSDPA network coverage at a relatively low TCO to meet the need of Optimus and deepen the "Kanguru" user development program.
